how about hotels in the garden district
 

Hello!<BR><BR>I have been checking for hotels for 10/12-10/14 in the French Quarter and they have been quite pricey.<BR><BR>Someone suggested that I stay in the Garden District instead as it is quite nice and the prices are lower. Any comments?<BR><BR>Also, does anyone know anything about Maison de Mandeville Guesthouse or Little Easy Guesthouse.<BR><BR>Thanks!

Honey, get a map. Neither is in the Garden District!!

I hope your future respondents will have a little more patience and sense than #1. Been a few years since we've been to NOLA, so I can't provide any Garden District info...but I'm sure there's a helpful Fodorite out there who can....We did do a B&B several years ago thru one of the local registries (a short jog from Tulane - very pleasant)...Good luck!

I don't believe Garden District is cheaper, to be honest! I'd always sugges t staying in the French QUarter. It's worth the extra money!

I know from experience that October is a busy month in New Orleans. Rates are at a premium citywide.

The Garden District is much more of a residential area. You might try something in the Central Business District (across Canal St. from the Quarter). If you are just looking for a place to sleep, try the Sleep Inn or Comfort Inn. New Holiday Inn Express on Carondelet. Also a Hampton Inn on Carondelet. All of these are very convenient to the Quarter. An idea of what you are looking to spend would help.<BR><BR>For a bit more $$ (and more character!), my favorite is the Fairmont Hotel. Old-time hotel, beautiful...often has some reasonable rates. Very convenient location.<BR><BR>You've picked a beautiful time of year to be here!

Go on turbotrip.com and search new orleans for hotels.<BR><BR>or neworleansonline.com they have specials<BR><BR>if you really want the Garden District try the Hampton Inn on St Charles or the Garden District Hotel (Ramada) or the Pontchartrain Hotel all on St Charles. You can take the Streetcar anywhere you want fron these hotels.<BR><BR>Hope this helps. We love having you visit here !!

The Pontchartrain is not nice anymore. I wish guide books would quite "recommending" it. My folks stayed there last year and checked out after one hour. They moved to the Grand Boutique Hotel down the street, which was okay.

I wouldn't recommend a "cheap" hotel in the French Quarter unless you want a "walk on the wild side". I would stay in the Garden District and take the trolley. That's a great experience anyway and not too far away.
