How About a Delete My Post Key?
 

So that, when a thread you replied to gains a totally unwarranted life, you can delete your post and not have it come up again and again when you click on your screen name?

Or an edit key for when you want to change or add something after you have posted. Other sites have it.

Trip Advisor has an "report inapprorpate post" tag on every entry. You can click and send in to the editors the reason you want to have something removed.

The problem with "edit" is that the people that have already seen the post, will not know that it was changed. We are better off if the person that posted an error, makes a new post with the correction where it will be seen.

I see the OP's question as not about inappropriate posts (I'm defining inappropriate as offensive), but about posts that have gone off on some tangent the OP never intended, e.g. the OP is about hotels in San Francisco that turns into a discussion on the hotels in Key West. Is that right Fra_Diavolo?

How about delete somebody else's post key?

Yes, I was more or less joking. Sometimes I answer a thread which just seems to go on forever, and I get tired of seeing it appear when I click my screen name.

You can edit a post after you post it. Simply hit your back button until you get to the page showing your response as you had typed it just before you hit "post my response". You can then click preview, then edit, edit it and repost it and the old post will change to your edited version.

This is handy when you realize an error right after posting. You can even go back to edit a post after posting other replies to other threads. But I agree it's best not to be able to edit older posts, as people have responded to what was already said -- and to change what you said makes them look like they didn't know what they were talking about. I've seen that happen a lot on other sites where people can go back anytime and edit their older posts.
