Houston...need hotel, things to do, spring break with boys
9 and 11, thinking of NASA, San Jacinto (is that great family style restaurant still there?), kima (sp? some new play area), restaurants (not chains), rodeo sounds good...hmm...any ideas are appreciated. have read a few threads and don't think the art museums will hold them. we live in dallas, just looking for an easy spring break trip. a nice hotel with a heated outdoor pool would be great, thanks!!!!

http://www.hmns.org/ This is a great museum with lots of things that kids like. The zoo is close by, too.
The San Jacinto Inn has been closed for a long time.
If you come while the rodeo is still going on, they would like that, too. Rides, livestock show, etc. in addition to the competition and the entertainment. www.rodeohouston.com
If they are into learning about the presidents, David Adickes' big presidents' heads is definitely unique. I always take out-of-towners there: http://www.hottowncoolcity.org/view/site/detail/101/ Other good stuff on this last website, too.

NASA and Kemah (a/k/a FertittaLand) will take up a full day. If you don't go to Kemah, try the Aquarium downtown (also owned by Tillman Fertitta). It is both a working Aquarium and a restaurant (food's not great, but kids like eating in front of a shark).
In town, try McGovern Museum of Health and Medical Sciences. (www.mhms.org) Near the Museum of Natural Sciences and Zoo.
Other smaller, interesting museums include the Houston Fire Museum (http://www.houstonfiremuseum.org/), the Museum of Printing History (www.printingmuseum.org) and the National Museum of Funeral History (http://www.nmfh.org/).
Don't know when you are thinking of coming down. Either UH or Rice should be hosting a baseball game while you are here. Both are high caliber programs, and good entertainment for kids interested in the sport.
Moody Gardens in Galveston can be an all day activity. Nice hotel with a large pool there as well. Galveston has other activites that can keep kids busy for a day or two.
The Rodeo has a lot of activities for kids. From the carnival, the livestock show and the Exhibits, there is plenty to do. For some reaosn, the Pig races are always entertaining.
If you are here on a weekend, consider staying at the Hilton Americas downtown. You can usually get a good price for weekends through Priceline.
Kid friendly food places that might hold their interest -- Lupe Tortilla's, Goode Company Barbecua, James Coney Island.
