Houston, TX Restaurant near Galleria (restart)

jfikar, sorry we hijacked your post by reminiscing about places. I thought I would start this thread to get back on the original topic, a place to eat on New Year's Eve in the Galleria area. Recognize that you are about a mile from the Galleria.

My suggestions are:

Americas - South American, interesting space, great food. The Corduas prepare great food. An Esquire Top 50 Restaurant when it first opened over ten years ago. Quality is still great. This is my number one choice. http://www.churrascos.com/Americas_hm.htm

Piatto's - Italian. A Carraba cousin. Small, excellent food. My favorite appetizer is the Asparagus Speciali, fried asparagus topped with lump crab meat. http://www.piattoristorante.com/index.html

Ouisie's Table - Southern. Just on the other side of Loop 610, but worth it. Casual and elegant at the same time. I eat here about 4 to 5 times a year. Everything I have had has been excellent. http://www.ouisiestable.com/

Simposio - Italian. Maybe even better than Piatto's. Don't let the strip shopping center location fool you. Simposio prepares great Norther Italian cuisine. Another Equire Top 50 Restaurant when it first opened. The Risotto's are amazing, the Osso Bucco is the best in town. http://www.simposiorestaurant.com

La Strada - Italian. Although my third choice for Italian on this list, still it is an excellent restaurant. A much more social environment than the others. La Strada has a great Sunday brunch menu. As for dinner, I love the Kathy Ruiz pasta - Chappel Hill sausage and chicken with jalapeno fettuccine in a chive cream sauce. http://www.lastradahouston.com/

Masraffs - Euro American. Relaxed atmosphere with outstanding food. Very comfortable space. http://www.masraffs.com/

Noë - Progressive American. The most expensive place on this list. This one is included if you want to go the fine dining route. In mymind, the best restaurant in Houston, period. The closest rivals are Mark's and Tony's, and neither compare. Truly amazing dining experience.

Hope this helps. Enjoy your visit and good luck in the bowl game.
