Houston to Austin and in between

heading to Houston for meeting for 3 nights in January and then will spend weekend in Austin. The next meeting is in Waller with hotel on outskirts of Houston. Will have car and wonder what i can see outside of Houston in that area. Should we stay in Waller or a town nearby?
ideas? suggestions?

Waller is only about 30 minutes from Brenham, the home of Blue Bell Ice Cream, the best ice cream in the country. If you can get to Brenham on a weekday, you can take a factory tour and get a scoop of Blue Bell Ice Cream.

the best ice cream in the country

Texans love them some Blue Bell.

There are others that are better, but none are Texan . . .

Where is the meeting? Traffic can be really bad here!

Maybe longhorn should have said "Republic". Some of us consider Texas a country. In any political boundary definition, Blue Bell is good.

The only thing I can think of that you will see on the outskirts of Houston is urban sprawl. And lotsa traffic.

In the downtown area, there are some museums around Hermann Park area - Holocaust, Science, etc.
