Houston restaurants/bars/clubs for 30 year olds?
It's been a while since I've lived in Houston. My work is having an event in Houston and 4 of us will be going down for it. Our event will get out around 9 pm on a Thursday so we'll want some place fun for dinner drinks and then a place or two to hang out afterwards. What restaurants/bars/clubs would be good for 30 year olds and wouldn't be dead on a Thursday night? Thanks!

Washington Avenue is popular now. El Tiempo has good Mexican (same family as the original Ninfa's) and is always packed. It closes pretty early, though, so check. Also with good food and drink is Max's Wine Dive. Cova is a great wine bar, and Soma Sushi is very very popular, too. Check out the reviews on www.b4-u-eat.com

risa, as you recall Houston is very spread out. Good ideas above, but it might help to know: where is the event?, assume you have a car (?), are you staying near the event site and/or would you prefer near hotel?

I've heard good things about Sambuca for dinner and jazz. The downtown area was just starting a resurgence when I was single. Whenever we go down for theater performances, there are lines at all the clubs, but I honestly could no longer tell you the names of them. I'm sure they've all changed since my single days. We used to go to www.bayouplace.com but I can't vouch for how it is these days. I'd love to read a trip report when you get back.

We are staying at Inn at the Ballpark and the event will be held at the hotel. I don't believe anyone will be renting cars so we'll be taking taxis around. Not a big deal but of course finding them is.

I've heard good things about Vic and Anthony's for dinner; it's a fairly new steakhouse, and it gets good reviews. It would be close to your hotel. We tried to get reservations for Valentine's Day, and they were already booked which is a pretty good sign. We're going to end up going to Zula.

We are in Florida for the winter and our son who lives in Houston is visiting. He says you can take a cab (about 5 min ride) to the 'middle of everythihg' House of Blues just opened this year and has great reviews and next to it is Hard Rock surrounded by theater and restaurants.
Also, he said from where you are staying, you can walk to 1820, a bar right by the ballpark that is fun and Thursday is a good bar night. He said ask for Sarah and tell her Brian sent you. Have fun!
