Houston: NASA are dangerous?
I booked the Hilton Houston NASA Clear Lake (which is right across the street from NASA) for my sister and her two kids. Someone who recently visited Houston said that area wasn't very safe. He said people were always hanging out in the hotel parking lot. Any opinions?

Sorry, the subject should have been Houston: NASA area dangerous?
|
I've been in that area fairly often and first I've heard of there being a "problem".

The NASA area in general is perfectly safe. I don't know where your friend got the info that it wasn't.
I'm only familiar with the Hilton Nassau Bay and wasn't aware they've opened a Hilton directly across from NASA. If it's the hotel I'm thinking of, it is an older property that has been there for many years. Not sure why people would have been always hanging out in the hotel parking lot. |
I feel better about the hotel location! Thanks everyone!

Just wanted to let you know that the hotel in not directly across the street from Nasa. Nasa is a large complex so if they are visiting Space Center Houston they would be best driving there unless the hotel provides a shuttle. The hotel is right on the water at Clear Lake and I haven't noticed anyone unseemly around there. There is a park close by and many fishing and skiing boats launch from the park. Nasa Road 1 is going through alot of road construction but it is an upper class area.

That's what I was thinking, seashell, but thought that perhaps the Hilton opened a second location closer to the NASA entrance.
If they are staying at the Nassau Bay Hilton that seashell is referring to then I would feel very safe and sound about it. BTW - I agree they definitely need a car. |
If you're talking about the Nassau Bay Hilton, and I think you are, then it's perfectly safe and nice with great views of the water. Only thing unsafe about it is that that's the infamous Clara Harris hotel.

I live in Clear Lake and this area is perfectly safe. That is the hotel on the lake close to Space Center Blvd. and Nasa Rd. One.

I'd like to add another recommendation in case anyone is looking for something in the Kemah area. A White Texas Pelican is a great B&B down there. It is right on the water with gorgeous views, a private pier, golf carts you can drive over to the Boardwalk (although it's close enough to walk), really nice owners, and delicious breakfast. We stayed in the Duke Room, and it had a private balcony with a gorgeous view of the water. They also have a nice porch swing and hot tub that guests can use. There are only 3 rooms there, so it's quiet and nice. I can't recommend it enough. It would make a nice spot for an anniversary weekend or a girls' weekend away.
