Houston IAH Layover Ideas?

My grandson and I have a 6 hour layover at IAH in Houston on a Monday in June. Any ideas for a quick trip in the area? He's 16 and we are on our way to Costa Rica. General picture of the area would be good. Looks like nothing is scheduled at Reliant Center. Thx.

It's mostly suburbia out there - subdivisions, malls, strip-malls, giant billboards, etc.

Only place somewhat interesting is Old Town Spring, north of the airport, with antique and craft stores. I doubt a 16-year old boy will be interested in those.

If you want to get out of the airport, go downtown. Rent a car, or just ride the bus. $1. Takes just over an hour. Good deal.

If you don't want to trek all the way downtown, another idea is Mercer Arboretum & Garden, about 15 min from IAH. It's operated by the Harris County Precinct Park system. Really nice 350 acre facility. Not sure a 16 yr old would think that's terribly exciting, but it's a thought.

Thx for your ideas, we'll find something I'm sure. Great bonding time???

If you do decide to stay within the airport, Terminal E definitely has the best restaurants, shopping, etc.

I think we'll get to know Terminal E pretty well. Thx.
