Houston GTG 4/30

Hi again, Houstonians and friends! This is a reminder that our Houston get together will be held at Teala's on Saturday, April 30th at 4:00 on their patio.

Teala's is located at 3210 W.Dallas. Here's their website: http://www.tealas.com/1.1.html

If you haven't done so already, please e-mail me at [email protected] so I can get a head count (or just post a reply on this message).

Lookin forward to seeing everyone there (and to enjoying a margarita!

I was just thinking about this yesterday and wondering if we were still on. I plan to be there.

bellairegirl Apr 15th, 2005 05:23 PM

Glad you're still coming, PM. Anyone else?

(I really should be proofreading my posts -- sorry. I know looking has a "g" at the end, and I needed a closing parentheses.)

I can't count out some really crazy last minute airfare, but since I just got back from that big year-long-in-the-planning-two-wk trip to Japan w/my son and since I just went to Houston at end of Feb. w/my daughter, I probably won't be able to make it. But I really wish I could. You guys have a basket of chips and salsa and a margarita for me, ok? And a quesadilla. And a taco al carbon. And another margarita. And a Spanish coffee w/a flan....

bellairegirl Apr 16th, 2005 06:17 AM

So sorry you won't be able to join us, emd. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a great airline fare for you.

Don't worry, I'll be sure to eat some chips, quesadillas, etc. for you... That will give me an excuse! Hope your recent trips were wonderful.

Had a really great time in Houstron in late Feb. Great weather and my sister's gfarden was blooming (amazing and nice, as it was snow and ice here in D.C.) I drove my daughter around University of St. Thomas, my school. Things have changed a bit around there since I was last down there. Also hung out in N. Shepherd/I10 area where my niece lives, and stayed in West Houston w/my sister. And ate at Luby's, a favorite of ours since we have NO cafeterias in the D.C. area. I had such a good time that I10 traffic didn't even bother me much. And Memorial Mall has been upgraded since I was last there too.
Some nice looking guys played "gotcha" and won- they rolled down the window on Westheimer and pointed to my tire and told me it was flat (giving me a heart attack) and I fell for it and stopped at a gas station, and felt really stupid because of course, it was not flat.
I still really like Houston and enjoy visiting there so much. may come back for some more Astros games and a stay at Inn on the Park this summer.
Have a great time! Isn't rkkwan coming?

Hi bellairegirl--too bad for me our trip was scheduled for this weekend and not the 30th!

I was shocked yesterday driving in from San Antonio at the construction on and along I10 around Katy / Dairy Ashford--I didn't recognize the area at all.

Today I went to the Museum of Fine Arts--saw the excellent exhibit, "African Art Now: Masterpieces from the Jean Pigozi Collection" which was all the more exciting because Jean Pigozi was there filming his own collection!

I was sad to find that the Out of Print Bookstore in the Village is gone :-( but happy the Hermann Park restoration project turned out so beautifully!

The weather could not be better right now...I just love it here! Hope you enjoy a fun GTG! :-)

Glad you're having fun visiting Houston, dcespedes! The weather has been gorgeous here for the past week, although it looks like some more humid air is headed soon.

Sorry you won't be able to make our GTG. Want to visit again in 2 weeks?

I wasn't supposed to be in Houston for another year when I last left in March, but at it turns out, I'm now headed back up on Tuesday. The bummer is that my scheduled return is the 29th! Arghh. I'll let you know if something comes up that I have to stay longer, though.

Have fun and be sure to report back on how it goes! :)

bellairegirl Apr 17th, 2005 01:30 PM

Oh, Statia, I can't believe you'll miss us by a day! I hope you can work it out to be able to join us.

So far here's our list:

LDLee
rkkwan
P_M
Susan and Paul (from Seabrook)

Anyone else like to join us?

gee, it would be fun to do a video link. I'm glad you are having a good turnout. I'd really like to meet you Houston experts. What about gzseattle, the woman who just moved her family to Houston and was so active on here for months before and after the move?? No sign of her I guess.

LDLee Apr 17th, 2005 04:44 PM

Still planning on being there. My wife volunteered us to work that day at the Kerrville Folk Festival stage at the Houston International Festival. Not sure the schedule. As I learn more, I will let you know.

The HIF is that weekend? Hmmm. can I drive down and back in one weekend.

bellairegirl Apr 22nd, 2005 07:42 AM

I'm topping this thread again to see if there's anyone else out there who might be interested in attending but hasn't seen it yet. (So far I haven't heard from anyone new.)

I'm checking the USAIR (they now fly direct from NAtl. airport to Houston)and Continental email specials when they come out early next wk. I see the Astors are playing at home the 29th, 30th, and May 1. That, the GTG, seeing family, and the HI festival would be an excellent weekend!

bellairegirl Apr 22nd, 2005 12:50 PM

Here's hoping you find a cheap flight! We'd LOVE to have you join us. In fact, I'll even treat you to a margarita if you come!

Cheers,
Susan

We're confirmed at Teala's for this Saturday at 4:00 on the patio. I've made a reservation for 12 people, although I think we'll be lucky if we get 8. Feel free to rustle up some friends to come with you!

See you then.

rkkwan Apr 30th, 2005 06:20 AM

Hey, that's today. One more bump. Will see you guys there...

bellairegirl Apr 30th, 2005 08:00 AM

I'll meet you on the patio (weather permitting). I'm coming straight from my son's soccer tournament in La Porte, so I might be a bit wind blown (but definitely ready for a margarita)!

See y'all at 4 pm today.
