Houston during hurricane
How bad is the weather in the general Houston area:
Any flooding or damaging winds. Thanks, I hope things settle down soon. Everyone be safe. |
I certainly wouldn't travel there now.
If I were there, I would leave immediately while I still can in order to reduce he burden on the local authorities. If you have to stay, the current advice is to have enough food and water and cash for a week and no expectation of electricity or cell phone service. Some areas may get up to two feet of rain. |
I just heard a report that they are expecting FEET of rain because the system is going to stall. Texas is known for flooding. It is likely to be a really bad storm.

Are you planning to travel there? You don't need people on Fodors to tell you what the weather in Houston is like if you own a TV, computer or radio, there is extensive coverage on TV, for example, with visuals.

It's bad - pouring rain with lots of tornado alerts. We've already had about ten inches of rain today, and it's still coming down. The parts of town that always flood are going under water. Supposed to linger around for several days. Not really much in the way of wind; it's more of a water event except for tornadoes being spawned. So far, we still have electricity. If you're planning on traveling to Houston, I'd avoid it for the next week or so.

Port Aransas and Rockport will be off-limits for quite some time. We had a condo rental in Port A next week for Labor Day weekend, and it was canceled due to the whole town being a recovery area for at least the next week and probably longer. So sad ... we love our Port A beach trips.
|
We've already gotten over 25 inches of rain with 25 more to come. Airports are shut down. Very sad what's happening.
|
Heartbreaking. There are no words---just hopes. PaulG ,I love that area too. If interested, the Rockport Chamber of Commerce has an official charitable donations page on gofundme, and of course, there is Red Cross, etc for Houston, etc. Volcanogirl, thoughts and prayers to you and all Houstonians

is there still an airport in Houston? Haven't heard much about it. I know there are no flights going in and out. We will need at fly from there in October thankfully that is 6 weeks away. Visiting SA and Austin and our flight home goes through Houston.
|
Just caught a story on the noon news, some levee just broke near a place called Columbia Lakes. They are predicting a letup of the rain tomorrow. Sad, truly sad.
|
My relatives are ok but life is not going to be normal for years. My niece works downtown Houston. The infrastructure is going to take a long time to repair. The chemical plant that is about to explode is scary. Now Louisana is getting hit.
|
Two airports in Houston and they are closed.
|
I'm waiting for a mention of climate change.
|
I believe the airports are back up and running now.
|
It becomes very difficult traveling to such place at the time of such a storm. My brother was struck in
the hurricanes and he had to face a lot of problems regarding flight delay. But by God's grace he came back safely. It is better we stay back home. |
