Houston Airport Rental Car

We are flying to Houston in May for a couple weeks around labor day. We will arrive and depart from IAH - Bush. I checked the rental car prices and they are really expensive. Is it possible to take a taxi to an off airport location and get a car from there for less? If so can anyone suggest which rental company and where? Thanks!

Have you tried HotWire or PriceLine? We almost always get our cars via HotWire. It is just a car.

Not knowing your exact dates, I did 1 wk before to 1 week after Labor Day with these results.
Hotwire's best was in the $700s
Hertz at IAH was near $1000
Hertz off airport was $508

It's 3.5 miles away so add in cab fare.
There is a local bus102 that takes 30 minutes if you need the thriftiest route ;)

I searched Memorial Day, not Labor Day as I see you mentioned May.

Not sure if you've left yet or what your itenerary is, but a cheaper option is to use uber from the airport to your hotel and look for zip cars in and around your desired destinations. I had a coworker live car-free in Houston for three months using only a bike, uber, and zipcar. Best of luck and enjoy the city!

Have you considered to use Hotwire? I have achieved very good rates through them at airports for weekend rentals. But they are prepaid and nonrefundable. And you don't know what rental company until the reservation is confirmed. In three different rentals at three different airports in the past 6 months I got Alamo each time and the service was fine.

Did Rachel or Laurie bother to read the original posting or the date? The OP was flying in May. I am sure they are home by now.

"Not sure if you've left yet or what your itenerary is, "

Umm, it's stated clearly in the original post. Why would you search and revive this and respond without even reading it?
