Hotwire airfares?
Did a search and could not find out anything specific --
I waited too long and now airfares to NYC are sky-high -- :(. Now I'm frantically scanning all the discount sites and Hotwire has the best rates. But not know the the ariline and flight details is a little scary. Who has used HW for airfare? Pros? Cons? Do these flights involve red-eye departures and long layovers? My travel dates are inflexible, btw. |
I have used priceline (similar to hotwire except you name your price instead of taking their price). I got a great flight time, and everything was perfect.
You could get stuck with times or connections that are not optimal, but you can read about your specific questions by following the customer care links at hotwire itself. Better to get the details from them than us. For example, directly from hotwire: * We'll tell you if your search includes a red-eye flight * For Clearance Fares and FlexSaver fares, you can assume that you have no more than one connecting flight, unless we indicate that 2 or more are required for a specific fare and destination. If a connection is required, it will most likely be under 90 minutes. 80% of the flights we book have a connection time of 90 minutes or less. And connection times for flights within the U.S., and between the U.S. and Canada are never more than 3 hours. Connecting times for international flights may be longer. The main con in my opinion is that you may end up arriving late on the first day and leaving early on the last day. This is especially painful if your trip is short and you effectively lose two days at your destination. What are your travel dates, from where are you flying, and what are the best prices you're seeing, both from airlines and hotwire? |
Where are flying out from???

jlm --
leaving from Tulsa to LaGuardia 7/16 - RT 7/23. Best rate was Hotwire $299 (but no details -- ) Best airline rate was AA $390 (with less than optimal leave and departure times -- :( -- can't everything, I guess! |
Try site59.com. Although you also have to rent a car or get a hotel, I've found that for last minute fares even with adding a car it comes out cheaper than trying to go through other sites.

You are leaving on a Sat which may keep the airfares up, usually a Monday though a Thursday the fares are a bit lower.
I just did www.cheapfares.com for you leaving on July 16 and put in the 19th as a return and got American for $366rt, which is not bad from Tusla. There were lots of options for flight times as well. I would also suggest calling a local travel agent to see what kind of fares they can offer you. Also go to the websites of all the airlines that fly out of Tulsa and check there as well. Hope this helps. |
Yikes -- we are leaving on the *15th* my bad!!
Kath, I've never heard of site59 -- I'll give it a try. |
