Hotels San Mateo/Redwood City CA?
Can anyone give me information about the Holiday Inn, Doubletree or Four Points by Sheraton hotels in San Mateo/Redwood City area? Have you stayed there, are they all in good neighborhood (quiet, noisy, etc.)? Any good/bad experience with any of them? Thanks
|
I am "t"this post. I had looked at Hotwire for lodging in San Mateo area, and these were three of what they gave. We will be there just two nights, not spending much time at Hotel at all. Looking for clean, comfortable accomodations in San Mateo area. When I went direct to these hotels web-sites, I couldn't find locations for them in Redwood City. However, Hotwire lists them in Redwood City. I have not used Hotwire before, and am concerned about there locations. Any help?

Hmmmm - I don't know much about San Mateo or Redwood city, but I can't imagine a Doubletree or Four Points by Sheraton being in an objectionable neighborhood. If they are too close to Hwy 101 they might be noisy and then there could be issues with airport noise from SFO because there are flight paths that go right up the peninsula.
Maybe someone else has some better info? |
From what I can tell from the hotel websites, at least the Doubletree and 4 Points are at the airport--I'm not sure, you understand, but I am somewhat familiar with the area, and the airport locations are the only ones near Redwood City. The area around the airport is perfectly safe, and not even especially noisy; the Westin we stayed in once was very well sound-proofed.

The AAA Tour Guide shows the Doubletree and Four Points and a Holiday Inn-San Mateo, a Holiday Inn-SF North, a Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites and a Holiday Inn Express Burlingame, all in the vicinity of the airport. Perfectly safe, very dull. My experience has been that these types of hotels in the vicinity of the airport usually have very good soundproofing. But if it would make any difference, the Holiday Inn Express is 2.5 miles from the airport and the Holiday Inn-San Mateo is 5 miles, while the others are about 1.5 miles. The Holiday In-SF North is adjacent to a convention center.
Not much help, I know...good luck. |
I have only stayed south of Redwood City (Best Western in Palo Alto) and north of San Mateo (Best Western El Rancho) and both were very nice.

I have not stayed at any (but have been in all three) and, given a choice, would suggest, in order:
1) Doubletree in Burlingame at Anza exit off 101 (northbound, Broadway southbound). In a quieter area about 3 miles south of the airport on the bay frontage road. There is a diner across the street. 2) Four Points in SSF is north of the airport about two miles and sandwiched in between the freeway and Airport Blvd. in a somewhat industrial area. 3) The Holiday Inn in San Mateo is at the off ramp of 101 northbound at Dore and is a creepy area about 5 miles south of the airport. I've heard horror stories about this place. Not sure what Redwood City has to do with these hotels (unless it is used for a general geographic description on an online booker) because it is not really near SFO; it's about 20 minutes south on 101. |
ahemmmm
:O) |
Clearing your throat or do you have something to say Kal? (Without the use of cutesy little pictograms?) Can you help with Lallie's question in some way?

Appreciate all the help everyone is giving me. I know I can look this up, however do one of you know how far San Mateo is from the SF airport? We have always booked our rooms directly with the hotel we are staying. However, as I said, I was checking out Hotwire, never booked through them before, thus my questions about the "neighborhood" of some of these. I thought the price was maybe a little to reasonable. I assumed, like J Correa mentioned that Doubletree and Four Points by Sheraton would be in safe areas. Thanks bluestar for the heads up on the Holiday Inn area. I'll read through all the suggestions again. I thank you all for taking time to help.

San Mateo is probably about 10 miles south of the airport. Not far on Hwy 101. Redwood City is probably another 10 miles farther south from SFO.

b'star,
I was probably crying too hard into my keyboard after getting spanked by you earlier after I "chided" another ***poster*** for yet another "drive by" review... I could only manage a weak "pictograms" reply... :`( Anyway...now that I've gotten over it, stayed at 4Points 2x and found it to be a nice place. Nice restaurant and bar. Good area. Stayed at Doubletree many times, too when I had business in San Mateo/Palo Alto areas. Cooookieeees... The whole area from down by 4Points up to Westin and Clarion off Old Bayshore Hwy is very nice. Easy on/off access to Hwy 101 too. Jogging path along the bay. We've also stayed at the Hyatt, Westin and Clarion...most of the time getting them thru Pricleine. Good chain restaurants too; Max's, El Torito, Elephant Bar. Sit in the back and watch the planes come in and land at SFO. Hyatt has a good deli and Knuckles sports bar. Alohaaaa cobie....see yah in Y'ville!((D)) B'star, you comin'? |
Well, OK then. It does seem a little strange (suspect?) though that you waited a day to offer relevant information to the OP.
Won't be at any gathering the day after Thanksgiving other than one with my family back East - leave next weekend for a week. Have a good time and Happy Thanksgiving. |
I had to wait for my k'board to dry out...
