Hotels near Waldorf

Can anyone make a recommendation for hotels near the Waldorf. Waldorf is a bit too pricey for me for a quick weekend.

I would like to stay near the Waldorf as friends are staying there.

thanks in advance

The Waldorf=Astoria? I think the Marriot Midtown East is directly across the street. I stayed there once and liked it.

Ah, cool, hadn't noticed this before, but you can view a list of hotels around the Waldorf -- and see exactly how many miles away each is:

Hope that helps!

You could also try Priceline and choose "midtown east" and get sort of close if you are unable to find anything in your price range.

I stayed at the Benjamin Hotel directly across from the Waldorf in late March and it was wonderful!
It's an Affinia hotel and we had a beautiful one bedroom suite with kitchen and living room.
Loved this hotel!

The link that thepeters gave you is good info, just check reviews on tripadvisor.com b/c not all of those hotels are wonderful. (ie the Helmsley Middletowne). You should book a cancelable room that you could live with and then try bidding on Priceline for 4* hotel in midtown east (assuming you're not more than 2). If you don't know about Priceline, biddingfortravel.com or betterbidding.com will help. Another option is hotwire.com To figure out what the hotels are, go to betterbidding.com 's hotwire hotel list.

The W new york is not too far away. Most Fodorites don't like it, but I do. It's not cheap but sometimes they run specials.

Teh W NY is directly across from the rear of the Waldorf. It's a fine hotel but rooms are very very small and they usually charge a lot for them. It is one of the Priceline hotels so if you bid 4* midtown east, it's a possible PL win.

The Roger Smith Hotel is not far from the Waldorf and sometimes has decent rates. It's a pleasant, smaller hotel.

We loved the Roger Smith. Euro-style, with character.
