I may be travelling to The Pitt for work soon. I'll make sure to get some restaurant recommendations from you guys before I go.

You might want to stay up in Sausalito or in Mill Valley area since most of what you want to do seems to be NORTH of the city.

Not enuff in SJ for my liking.

And I like being a few hours away from Gettysburg, DC, Baltimore and the rest of the Civil War Battlefields.

Plus, Virginia has some nice vineyards too.

I like to joke with my Pitt cousins that there are 3 lanes of traffic leaving Pitt and only 2 coming in!

BUT, I'd still take SF any day. Warts and all. :-X

Matty, if you want to avoid changing hotels, how about the Best Western Lighthouse in Pacifica, just south of S.F. on the coast? Close to 1 and 280 for driving down to Santa Cruz and points south, and to 1 for the fastest drive through S.F. (avoiding downtown) to the Golden Gate Bridge for points north. Within easy striking distance of SFO, much more so than anyplace in Santa Cruz or north of the Golden Gate would be, yet well out the the airport atmosphere. And it has ocean views!
