Hotels Near Mandalay Bay?

We are going to a convention at the Mandalay Bay in mid-May. We are being offered good rates ($113/nite) at the Luxor nearby, but wonder if there are other moderately priced hotels within short walking distance that we should consider. Not too interested in spending a bundle on accommodations but want clean, attractive room. Please give us feedback about the Luxor.

Not a bad price for Luxor -- haven't stayed there myself, but the main areas are well kept and it is certainly convenient to MB. Have you checked out www.cheapovegas.com? Or TripAdvisor? Both sites give great feedback for hotels.

The Excalibur is considered inexpensive (compared to many other Vegas hotels). I've never stayed there but it is connected to Mandalay Bay and Luxor by a Tram (free). The Luxor is fine, it's been awhile since we have stayed there as we prefer being more center strip. Frequently you can get the Luxor for even less then $113 but that is not bad if it is weekend/convention time.

It is a quick walk to Mandalay Bay from Luxor, Excalibur, Tropicana and New York New York. Monte Carlo and Aladdin are also pretty close, and both have very nice rooms.

www.vegas.com/map.html

is a map of the strip hotels. You can see how far apart they all are (distances are given on the right) and decide how far is too far, then check the hotel web sites for your dates to see which is best.

If you do a search here and at www.tripadvisor.com you can see reviews of the hotels that interest you. For this site, the search box is at the top of the screen. I know I've read posts here about Luxor in the past.

One not mentioned that is close and often has good rates is MGM. I consider anything near the corner of Tropicana and the Strip to be close enough becuase of the free tram from Excalibur to MB. It all depends on your definition. If it is very hot, a 1/2 to 1 mile walk can be daunting for some.

I stayed at the Luxor last year for a convention and found it to be very nice. There is a covered walkway with shops to go through to get to Mandalay Bay- we often ended up going over there to eat and gamble. Our room was in one of the newer towers and was clean & spacious. I understand the rooms inside the pyramid only have stall showers- not tubs. The tower rooms have tubs. The Pyramid cafe in Luxor (the 24 hour restaurant) had very good breakfast offerings. I would not hesitate to stay here. I have not stayed in Excalibur but just walking through it looked pretty dumpy.

I was not impressed with Excalibur. We are going to convention on Monday and will be staying at Mandalay Bay again. It was very nice. Two others in our party will be staying at the Luxor. I can report back Friday.

Wm, did you ever go and if you did where did you stay??
