I believe it's the Embassy Suites in Penn Quarter that is right on top of Metro Center station.

It's a Marriott in the adjacent Downtown neighborhood.

Alexandria has a lot to recommend for a repeat visitor to DC -- it has enough historic sites, architecture, art, parks, restaurants, shops and nightlife to be its own destination or an adjunct to a DC trip. It's a 20 minute ride to the city, not a prohibitive distance. I wouldn't make it my choice for a first time visit to the area.

The Grand Hyatt is above the Metro Center stop. Take the exit for 11th & G and after the turnstile before the escalator there is a door on the left that lead to the Hyatt Lobby.

Yes, Seamus, thank you! It's the Grand Hyatt, not the Embassy Suites.

You might want to also use the Big Bus, hop on / hop off double decker bus for touring the sights.

You are most certainly correct about the Grand Hyatt, Seamus.

Can't claim to be all that savvy - just that I recently spent a week and a half there!
