Hotels in Omaha
 

Will be in Omaha in Sept. Any reccomendations for a medium priced hotel and good location. Restuarants would also be of help. Thanks Myra

Embassy Suites is new and right next to the Old Market...probably the most interesting area in town. Hilton Garden Inn is also close. Haven't stayed in either but they look good on the surface. Renovated warehouses, shops, parks, Durham Western Heritage museum all within a few blocks.<BR><BR>Lots of restaurants in the old market. My favorite is Ahmad's if you like Persian. V. Mertz for continental, Omaha Prime for a steak. Midtown has a great greek place called Victor's. (Total dive...I think Victor lives there)<BR><BR>If you go out west Prima 140 and Tremont are good choices. The Drover for steak (not the greatest environment but great steaks.)<BR><BR>September is definitely the best time for weather. No guarantees though. It could be 95 degrees or 40 and raining.

If you are looking for a hotel in the more west-central area of Omaha, try the Crown Plaza Omaha Old Mill. It's newly renovated and my out-of-town friends from work stay there giving it good recommendations. It's fairly close to shopping (Westroads Mall, One Pacific Place and Regency Mall with the world famous Borsheim's Jewelry)and restaurants, some of them are national chains such as PF Changs and Macaroni Grille, but you will also find locally owned Cafe di Coppia and Kobe Steak (Japanese teppan-table) at Regency Mall and Wheatfields at One Pacific Place. Also, just east on Dodge about a mile is a great strip-mall restaurant called Jam's wonderful for lunch or dinner. No matter where you are staying, you should try to get to the Lauritzen Botanical Gardens and the Henry Doorly Zoo.

You have already been helped on the hotel, but if you have any interest all in aviation, visit the Strategic Air Command museum. It is tremndous!<BR><BR> Keith

Obviously these people live in Omaha ... :-). But if you want to be close to the zoo and Rosenblatt Stadium for activities the Ameristar Hotel along with Hampton Inn and Suites and the Holiday Inn Ameristar are less than three minutes away and just across the river in Council Bluffs at the crossroads of I 80/29. The Ameristar is a 4 diamond hotel with very nice facilities and should be able to get a room between 70 and 90 bucks. <BR><BR>The other two hotels are attached to this facility at even better rates.<BR><BR>Harrah's Hotel/Casino is at the next exit and very close to the Old Market on the Iowa side of the Missouri.<BR><BR>The metro area is not just Omaha anymore....<BR><BR>good luck.

You know why they cancelled Council Bluffs Parade of Homes don't you? <BR><BR>All the trailers had flat tires.....<BR><BR>:-)

I would definitely go with Embassy Suites over the Crowne Plaza, just for location sake. The Old Market has so many good restaurants within walking distance of the Embassy Suites--the French Cafe is my favorite, with Omaha Prime a close second.

Park Inns just opened a new hotel just outside of the old market. It's about a five minute drive and the prices are really reasonable. You can check it out at www.parkinns.com

I was in Omaha last month for work and I would definitely recommend staying near the Old Market. We stayed at the Hampton Inn on West Dodge, which was close to where we needed to be, but nothing remotely interesting in that area. We went down to the Old Market for dinner one night and there were several restaurants that looked good.

Anyone have any thoughts on the Sheraton? I've heard mixed reviews...
