hotels in old town (san diego)
I would like any information on the Old Town Plaza Hotel outside of San Diego. I'm thinking of making reservations. Are there any other comparable hotels in the area that come with a better recommendation? Thanks in advance.

Joanne: I don't know about the hotel you mentioned but I did stay in Old Town last year at the Ramada Limited OLD TOWN and it was just what we wanted. NOT fancy but decent and no problems with anything. We could walk around in Old Town at night and enjoyed it more than Downtown. We are from Chicago and don't seem to like all the downtown areas anywhere, as much as others, same stores etc. etc. This hotel was very close to the expressway and we went to so many places that we were hardly ever in the hotel or area except at night time. Great stay and would do it again in the Old Town area.

I second Jeanette's recommendation of the Ramada Limited Old Town. We found it to be very comfortable and convenient when we were there last winter, and we got an excellent rate. Contact the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau and see if they're still offering a discount coupon book for area attractions - the Ramada Limited was in there last year, and even though the dates we needed weren't covered by the coupon, they honored the rate anyway.

I agree with the others on the Ramada in Old Town. You won't be disappointed.

Hi, is the Ramada Old Town near the trolley? We are going to San Diego two nights prior to a cruise...arrive late so will have one full day to do the zoo. Also are there restaurants and shops within walking distance? Thanks so much.

judy, yes the trolley goes to old town. would be easy to get to the zoo and would be a fun area for your dinner that night. lots of restaurants within walking distance. about a 10-15 minute taxi ride to the harbor for your cruise.
