Hotels in Niagara Falls
 

Hi - Headed to Niagara Falls in a few weeks and would love any feedback on a good hotel to stay in...either on the NY or Canadian side (though from reading posts, I get the feeling it's better to stay on the Canadian side). Any thoughts?

Stay on the Canadian side - there is so much more to do than on the US side, especially now that the Maid of the Mist etc is closed down for the season. Plus, it is an easy walk across the Rainbow Bridge to visit the attractions on the US side. I have stayed at the Sheraton Fallsview - it is at the end of the "strip" of hotels and has great views of the 3 sets of falls. It is also close by to the newer casino, the Niagara Fallsview Casino. Practically every chain is represented in NF, Ont so take your pick! If you are travelling with family, there is an Embassy Suites next to the Sheraton.

Remember to bring along your passport, or a drivers license and birth certificate.

mid september i spent one night on the us side and 1 night on the canadian side. the us side was extremely dead at night. nobody out on the streets. nice park on that side though.
i didn't the carnavel atmosphere at the one end on the canadian side. try to stay at the quieter end where the more upper scale hotels are.

If you want to avoid all the gross tackiness that's everywhere in either US or Canadian city by the Falls, then drive about 20 minutes more to Niagara-On-The-Lake- very nice Victorian inns, better hotels, quaint downtown area, surrounded by the Niagara wine region, and good restaurants.

Stay on Clifton Hill anywhere else is not Niagara Falls so to speak. Walk to anything that is worth going to (walk to transportation) Yes anything will suffice but I like to be on top of the attraction. And it did not strike me as gross tackiness at all.

We felt the best bargain for sightseeing was through Canada's Niagara Parks Great Gorge Adventure Pass http://www.niagaraparks.com/nfgg/index.php

We aren't much into many of the carnival-type activites in the Niagara Falls area so spent one fascinating vacation day in Lockport riding an barge down the Erie Canal and touring Youngstown's Old Fort Niagara.

I usually only post on the Caribbean Board, but I highly recommend the Fallsview Marriot. The views from the fallsview rooms are phenomenal, especially the higher floors. Even if you don't stay there, the Terrapin Grill on the Mezzanine level is wonderful for dinner. They do have some packages where breakfast is included and also a dinner coupon. The Clifton Hills area is a little cheesy, but families seem to love it. I definitely prefer the Canadian side. Don't bother with the IMAX falls movie. Boring. Niagara on the Lake is a cute little town worth walking around. Nice little shops and restaurants.
