Hotels in New York City

I am getting married in October and need to find some reasonably priced hotels in NY City for some of my guests. Any suggestions?

Can you tell me what's your idea of "reasonably priced?" Then, I can give you some ideas.

Just saw an ad in todays Travel Section of Washington Post with $149 rooms at the newly renovated New Yorker -- special runs for Thurs-Sun nights -- maybe you can wangle similar rates if you plan ahead.

Check out the Hotel Beacon -- I found it through Fodors' guide to NYC lodging. My husband and I are staying there in May (Monday-Thursday) for $160 per night. It's an apartment hotel w/ furnished kitchen, on the Upper West side near Central Park (at 75th & broadway) . . . it's gotten good reviews here. Phone # is 800 572 4969.

Reasonable rate would be about $200?

Don't be afraid to make a few calls and negotiate --especially if the wedding is on a weekend. If you are offering suggestions to your guests to pay for themselves, try to get a hotel to make you an offer for a special rate if you book 5 or more rooms for a two or three night weekend for example. This may be a little more difficult to get than you booking a group of rooms yourself, but then be responsible for them.

Not sure how nice you need things to be but check out the Chelsea Inn,
Washington Square Hotel, and Gramercy Park Hotel. All downtown -- if you need uptown there's a lot of places in more touristy neighborhoods. The places I mentioned are modest, funky, in GREAT locations but not touristy at all. They are where my out of town guests stay when visiting me in nyc.
I got a great deal with priceline.com. They set me up with The Sheraton Manhattan for $320 for a 3 night stay. Priceline doesn't work too well for airline tickets b/c you can't choose what time you fly out but as for hotels, you can tell them what star hotel you are willing to stay in and you name a reasonable price, and there you have it. Good luck.

Check out the Salisbury Hotel. It used to have good rates and it is in a GREAT location.

I stayed at On the Ave for $115 plus tax at the end of March. It's a European style hotel - - no lobby but I had a very nice room and a good location (on 77th at Broadway). The rack rate is higher, but they seem to have regular specials.
