Hotels in New York City

We are looking for a recommendation for a hotel on the West Side of Central Park. We hope to find a mid-priced or less and know that it will be expensive. We are traveling with our 9 year old daughter. Please give us some suggestions.

You can look at the tons of posts here for suggestions.

Mid-priced or less - varies by time of year

December? Mid-priced is probably $300

January - Mid-priced is probably $150

I would go to Orbitz to get an idea of the price ranges by section of the city

Central Park starts at 59 st. and goes to 110 st. Are you saying anywhere along there on the west side? Some family friendly budget/moderate priced hotels

mclaurie's list is good for pleasant and moderately priced hotels (based on NYC prices). Naturally Jan/Feb will be a lot cheaper than between now and Christmas.

If you're going before Christmas I would reserve hotel immediately, since they are selling out now for more popular dates - plus the lower priced rooms will go first.

When are you planning on going and what budget are you looking at?

We will be in New York from March 29 to April 5. I'm discovering there is aa high tax on rooms. It would be wonderful if we could stay below $275 including taxes.

Thank you for the ideas. We were thinking anywhere on the West Side from 59th to 110th. This is currently our preference, but tell us if you think we should consider another area as well.

We are also considering renting an apartment for the week. Any ideas on that?

You can tell we are just beginning to put the trip together and are open to suggestions. So far we only have our airline tickets.

I think the area you're looking at is perfect with a 9 year old. You're close to Central Park to do some kid stuff - zoo, boating on the lake, general running around - and it's a mid/upscale residential area with tons of kid-friendly restaurants. It's close to several museums (Nat'l Hist and the Met) and has 2 subway lines that will get you to midtown and downtown quickly.

I would go to the hotel web sites as well as travelzoo to see what deals are available - although it may be too early for them to show up now. Suggest you reserve something cancelable now, then look again when special are announced - probably in Jan or so.

Do NOT rent an apartment from an individual. There are too many scams online and most private apt. rentals are illegal anyway. If you'd prefer a bit more space and a small kitchen, several places have suites like an apt.
milburnhotel.com
is the one that might be in your price range.
beaconhotel.com
also has suites but was recently renovated and increased it's prices.

Hotel tax in NYC is ~ 15%.
