hotels in N.O.
 

Going to N.O. for long weekend in March. Looking at Dauphine, Sheraton or Intercontinetntal. Any suggestions?

I stayed at the Intercontinental a long time ago. It's an ok hotel, but, like I suspect the Sheraton would be, lacking in New Orleans charm.

Both the Intercontinental are large, impersonal hotels. Not inherently bad, just not very interesting.

I'd definitely go with the Dauphine.

For what most "outsiders" want to see in New Orleans as a typical place to stay, there are several hotels in the French Quarter that are suitable. The Dauphine Orleans is only one and is certainly a good choice. If you have the time and inclination, you might look at others that might suit your budget, your personal interests, and your quest for something new.

I would not recommend Intercontinental or any other similar large hotel except for the Monteleone or other larger inns right in the French Quarter. Good luck and enjoy your trip.

The Ritz Carlton or The Windsor Court or the two best hotels in NO. Both have very decent rates now.

Our first visit we had a suite city view at Windsor Court and switched to a Jr suite river front!

Last trip we stayed in a high room river view at Loews - spacious, new rooms.

Both would be perfect for me. I want to try a more local boutique hotel in the quarter, but both of these provide the level of service and fresh duvets. I find I get enough character on the streets of Nola, and like the refuge.

I guess it all depends on what you want out of the trip. If you are looking for a French Quarter experience, the scene and atmosphere than definitely stay at The Dauphine Orleans. If you want to get away from the activity to rest and relax, Sheraton is a good hotel and they usually are always reasonable in price. I have stayed at the Sheraton a few times now and I really like the hotel. I like the fact that if I don't want to be around the chaos and commotion I just have a short 5 min walk back to the hotel.

Look at the Ritz Carlton, Omni Orleans (French Quarter), and Windsor Court. All have good prices on their website (the Windsor Court has suites for $200/night including a dinner at their highly acclaimed restaurant, the Grill). Look directly on their websites, though, as that may not show up on expedia et al.

Sheraton and Intercontinental are business hotels that lack charm. I would try to pick somewhere more in the FQ. Also look at the W French Quarter (houses Bacco restaurant) as they sometimes have specials on their website.

Ditto for Hotel Monteleone (which often has deals that show up on Travelzoo).
