Hotels in Munich
 

We will be visiting Munich Germany for 4 days and would like suggestions on where to stay. This will be our first vist so any information would be welcomed. We would like the hotel to be close to the train station since we will be mainly on foot. Thank you

I too am looking for hotels ideas in Munich for June of this year, but I'm surprised to find your request in the United States Forum.
Perhaps you should also post in the Europe Forum, and tag it Germany, so more people will find it.

I can highly recommend the Maximilian apartments, particularly if you have more than two in your party. They are very modern self catering apartments within a short stroll of the Marienplatz, and not too far from the Isator underground station that gets you straight there from the airport.

Thank you for your information regarding how to tag. This is my first time on this site. Wasn't for sure how to use it. Not for sure how much hotels are in Munich. But would like a nice clean place to stay. Can you get a nice place for arount $100 - $150? There will be 4 of us. We'll be taking the train into Munich. Thank you for any information.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Laimerhof - it is a little outside the city center near the Hirschgarten and the Nymphenberg Palace. The S-Bahn is a 10 minute walk and the tram station is a 5 minute walk, so we found it to be a pretty convinient location. Our rate was about $100 per night for 2 people, breakfast included. They have family rooms too.

I have also heard good things about the Hotel Uhland.

Over the years, my favorite has been the Hotel Astoria. Recently the Astoria moved to a new location very near the museums. It now operates under the name of the Hotel Carlton Astoria.

The staff is the same, and I can assure all readers that the members of the front desk staff speak English. The four ladies who customarily staff the front desk are among the very best in the business.

I have not been to the new hotel yet, but I doubt if the breakfast has lost any of its excellence.

The location is on Fürstenstraße near the Odeonsplatz U-Bahn.
The Alte Pinakothek is about 2 blocks away.

We like to stay near the Haupt bahnhof because it is close to the pedestrian zone and within walking distance of Marienplatz. We like the Drei Lowen and if you are looking for a family type place the Uhland is a little further away but it is a nice place. You can go to Octopustravel.com to see picture of the hotals. They don't always have the best prices but they do have pictures. A lot will depend on your budget.

Near the train station the Augustiner Brewery Keller is a grreat place to get a tasty Bavarian meal.

I second the Laimerhof. It is within walking distance of the Hirschgarten - a beautiful outdoor beer garden/park. I found it to be not so convenient to public transportation, but maybe that's because we had spent the day at Oktoberfest and had some problems finding our way back. ;)

November moon and sherhatfield: Laimer Hof and Uhland both look very good, I'll be looking in to the other suggestions also, and many thanks to all.

The area is more upscale. As your neighbor, I'd say "Go for it".
Unfortunately they are building lots of cheap housing now at Laim station. It will change for the worse :-(

I LOVE the look of the Laimer Hof!! I'm now waiting patiently for my Dutch friend, Jaap to tell us what dates he expects us to be in Munich, so I can try to book it, or the one other good one (I hope) that I found.

taconictraveler, you will have to walk a few minutes to the tram, bus or S-Bahn from the Laimer Hof. But it's a much better area than Hauptbahnhof. If you like Greek food, the "Poseidon" is 3 stops from there. (Bus 51 to Olympia-Einkaufszentrum, a big shopping mall or Bus 151 to Westfriedhof or tram to the Botanic garden, which I'd highly recommend to visit).
