Hotels in Key West
 

Hi ,
I am planning to book Hotel in Key west for the May Long weekend. Obvoisuly the prices are high .
I am trying to book my hotel through Hotwire. I want to stay only on the Old Town Side.Is there any way I can limit my search in Hotwire to search only for Old Town Hotels.

I just looked on Hotwire and the answer to your question is "no". The Hotwire hotels are listed as .2 to 2.2 miles from city center. The best you can do is to match up the amentity icons and read the reviews to get a better idea of which hotels you are probably bidding on. That website is a wealth of knowledge but you have to read and try to decipher. You won't know which hotel you got until after the transaction is completed.

Thanks Guys for the links. This is the first time I am going to Key West. Would you recommend living in the Old Town section or any place should not mater.

I am also interested in this thread.
We wll be staying in Key West mid Jan after getting off a cruise in Fort Lauderdale.
We are from Australia and are looking for a real "Key West" esperience and enjoy good B&B's as well as nice resorts.
We have visited other parts of Florida before but not Key West and surrounds.
It will be just my husband and I . We are in our 40's and enjoy great scenery, shopping, seeing the sights and eating out.
Any recommendations?

Hi Donna...I can't say enough about the Ambrosia House...great location in Key West where you can walk to everything and an incredible "continental breakfast" in the morning...not your usual continental breakfast. The staff are very friendly and the grounds of the hotel are beautiful. There is an inground pool and jacuzzi. I went with my boyfriend at the time and we stayed across the street in a balcony room (we are in our 40's as well with similar interests). I suggest the rooms in the house across the street...more privacy and very quaint. We loved everything about this place. I will definitely stay here again! A real Key West feel in a boutique style hotel! You even have your own Keurig coffee maker in the room. Good luck!

Having visited Key West 3 times in the past (last time in January), I would always want to stay in the Old Town Area. More to do (restaurants, attractions, people watching) and you can walk to all of that if you're in Old Town.

Ambrosia has a very good reputation in Key West, as does Island City House.

If you prefer a hotel to a B&B, Best Western Hibiscus is very popular and is also within the less expensive range. Ocean Key, Pier House, Westin and Hyatt are all on the bay side of Key West and on the water, so their prices reflect that.

I've never tried bidding through hotwire, but have been told by others that you cannot get accommodations in Old Town that way. I think you'll prefer Old Town to New Town, which is filled with fast-food joints and strip malls.

For sure stay in Old Town! Parking is hard so once you are parked at your hotel/b&b you can walk everywhere and not worry about finding a parking space. Be sure and visit Mallory Square in the evening.

The entire Key West "Experience" is centered in the Old Town area... It is almost guaranteed that hotels booked through discount services will NOT be in the Old Town area and will likely be in in the cheesy tourist area along Roosevelt Blvd... why travel all that way and stay in a mall type area...

Use a website like www.historickeywestinns.com or www.keywestinns.com to start your search ... most of these are genuine properties with the Key west vibe...

Also keep in mind that there are differences between the chain hotels and the small key west properties... if you truly want Key West, pick a small Inn or Hotel... If you just want a room the Chains do have Old Town Locations...

Top choices include The Gardens Hotel, and the Marquesa, but there are also reasonably priced accomodations in Old Town...

We've been going to Key West once or twice a year for about 15 years. We stayed at Ambrosia about 10 years ago and head a very nice time.

Our current favorite B&B is Cypress House. Nice rooms in a range or prices, fairly large pool (for a B&B), really nice breakfast, and an absolutely awesome 'happy hour' by the pool every evening. The staff is truly wonderful as well.

Hi everyone,
I have heard back from Ambrosia, $369 plus tax per night and Ocean Key $433 plus tax per night. I have looked up Best Western Hibiscus $175 and will have a look at the reviews for this. It does look like an older style property though.
I have not looked at the rest of the hotels mentioned that will be a job for this afternoon.
I realise it is the high season but am not prepared to pay over $300 a night. I was hoping for around $250.
Will check out the Gardens and Marquesa as well as the web sites given.
