Hotels in Durango

Can anyone recommend a good hotel in Durango, not too expensive.

We once stayed at the Apple Orchard Inn a few miles north of Durango. My husband and I don't usually stay in bed and breakfasts; but this property has private cottages--each named after a different apple and with country/english decor. We loved our stay here! Their rates start at about $75 and go up from there. They were once named as colorado's best b&b. Make sure to not miss a delicious homemade breakfast as well as yummy treats in the main house!! good luck!

You probably have at least 30 choices.

I have stayed at the Doubletree (970-259-6580) and the Strater (970-247-4431), both at the high end of the price spectrum. For both hotels in the fall, you're looking at $140-$180 for a double.

There are other places as low as $30-40 per night. I've never stayed there, but the Wapiti Lodge (970-247-3961) is a mom and pop kind of motel with chairs on the porches. I'm sure they are fairly reasonably priced, but they're a few blocks from the historic district. The Durango Lodge (888-440-4489) is well-located, and people sitting on the porches there always look happy. For B&Bs, the Rochester Hotel (800-664-1920) seems to be the favorite.

What is your price range?

I was looking for something under $100.
Something in a good location, maybe with a view. If thats possible. The porches sound good, I will check into those.

Last summer we spent one night in the Comfort Suites in Durango. It was located on the outskirts of town but was fairly new, clean, etc. The remainder of our stay we rented a condo outside of Durango - out by the ski slopes. We had a wonderful time. Be sure to see the melodrama - haven't laughed that much in ages! And if you have time take the drive over to Ouray - beautiful scenery!

The Apple Orchard Inn gets my vote!! We're also not the B&B type...but this is private & very comfortable.
The owners are very accommodating & breakfast was great!!

We are coming the last of September and will probably spend one night in Durango and one night in Ouray. This will be the last 2 nights of our trip to the four corners area
