Hotels in Chicago

I read all the posts below on hotels. I booked one night at the Hyatt Regency but not sure what neighborhood it's in. It's on Lake Shore Dr. Here's a little secret. I just looked at Hotwire for one night and figured if it's a good hotel I'll book another two nights. Opinions?

There's a Hyatt on Wacker that's very close to Lakeshore Dr. If it's the same hotel, then yes, it's pretty good. A large convention hotel, not overly luxurious, but clean and well located. It's just off of Michigan Ave.; bus and trolley stops accross the street.

Thorspecken, you can't refer to other posts by simply saying "the next post" or "the post below" because the posts move based on the last comment added to the thread.

I agree that the Hyatt Regency Chicago on Wacker is well-located and nice, but not terribly opulent.

If you're talking about the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, it's an ok hotel, but not near anything except the convention center. The only way to get to any of the sights would be cab or the Number 3 (King Drive) bus.

Double check which one you booked. According to Hyatt website there are two Hyatt Regency's in Chicago. There addresses are one on East Wacker Drive and one on South Martin Luther King Drive. Both are close to Lake Shore Drive but not on it. The East Wacker is the one just at the bottom of the Mag Mile and close to Millenium Park and the other typical tourist places. The one on MLK is next to the convention center and as the other poster mentioned not near the typical tourist sights. If it's a really good bargain and you can find your way on public transportation it might be worth it but I am afraid not.

Thank you all. It is the one on Wacker although I guess the official address in on Lake Shore. I guess for $94 I don't expect too luxurious although the regular online price is $229!

The Hyatt on East Wacker is NOT on Lakeshore Drive. It is about a half mile from Lakeshore Drive.

I don't see how it could be the same Hyatt.

FWIW, Chicago is home to Hyatt and there are quite a few of them there.

There are three Hyatt properties within the city limits and, as the previous post says, none has an address on Lake Shore.

The Hyatt Regency Chicago is at 151 E Wacker. In the space between the Hyatt and Lake Shore Drive is an office building, apartment building, the Swissôtel and two condos.

The Hyatt Regency McCormick Place is at 2233 S King Drive. McCormick Place is between the hotel and Lake Shore Drive.

The Park Hyatt is at 800 N Michigan Avenue.

The only hotels I can think of on The Drive are the W Hotel-Lakeshore at 644 N Lake Shore Drive and the Ramada-Chicago at 4900 S Lake Shore Drive.

It's on East Wacker. I don't know where I got the Lake Shore. I must have seen something from the website and written down the address wrong. Oops. And thanks to all of you for getting me to take a look.

$94 per night is a good rate for the area/location. I don't think you'll be dissapointed.

Enjoy your stay in Chicago!

I stayed at the Hard Rock and the Hyatt Regency. Both were great, and both were a bid on priceline. I got the Hyatt for $50 a night in February and the Hard Rock for $90 a night in April. Good luck!

The Hyatt Regency on Wacker Drive is near Lakeshore Drive, near the Loop and River North. Easy to get around from there. At $94 a night, that seems like an excellent price.

The Hyatt Regency, which I stated earlier I stayed at, was one of my favorite hotels to visit on business. The decor of the room is simple and clean. The lobby is huge, and it is walkable to all the sights.
