hotels in Charleston near Magnolia Plantation

My daughter and I are planning to be in Charleston for a wedding that will be at Magnolia Plantation. We are looking for a hotel/motel close to the plantation. Since we'll have a toddler with us, we'll need a room with a kitchenette or at least a refrigerator and microwave. Many thanks for any suggestions you can give me.

You micht want to use yahoo maps and then use the hotel feature. It will show the area hotels on the map around Magnolia Plantation. The plantations isn't 'right' next to anything, so you'll probably have to stay either near the airport or closer to downtown. It's really not that far, miles-wise, to drive to Magnolia from either location. Read reviews on trip advisor for specific hotels. If you get things narrowed down, add to this post and I'm sure you'll get some more input. Also, how long are you planning to stay?

West Ashley is another area that could work for you. There's a La Quinta over by California Dreamin' that has refrigerators and microwaves upon request, but I have never stayed there.

I don't know if its near Middleton Plantation, but if it is, Middleton Plantation has a hotel, IMO (as an architect) the finest 20th century piece of architecture in South Carolina. I've enjoyed a couple of stays there and will return again.

If you want to also see Charleston while you're there, I would go ahead and look for a hotel downtown in the historic district. If you are wanting a hotel close to the wedding site, in case the toddler needs to be put down for a nap, etc. then I would look for hotels in West Ashley.

Agree with Betsy. You'll have a car. Stay downtown and enjoy the city too.

I think Middleton was used in the scene in The Patriot where they blow up the British supply ship moored offshore. Was there for a wedding, great grounds (take bug spray if its June...not bad during the day but right at Sunset an issue). We stayed in the outbuildings which are more like a conference center/national park type hotel room. They were clean, a bit dated, fine for a night or two if you need to be close. I'm with the posters on staying in town. Its perhaps a 10 minute drive?
