Hotels in Cambria and Monterey, CA
I have reservations at the Fog Catcher Inn in Cambria and Casa Munras in Monterey. Any comments, positive or negative?
|
We've stayed at the Fog catcher inn during the off season (Feb 05 I think) for one night.
It was just warm enough to use the outdoor hot tub and cool enough to enjoy the fire in the room! We didn't have an ocean view but the ocean was just across the road. I'd stay there again. The only negative was the free included breakfast was poor quality. Yes, it was free but it was a slight disappointment. |
The motels in the Fog Catcher price range on Moonstone Drive are pretty much alike. We go for the best rate unless we can pick up a room with a deck that directly faces the water. |
I agree that the motels on Moonstone Drive are similar and they're all fine. Cambria is lovely. I wonder about your choice of Casa Munras though because the location isn't what I might choose; I'd rather be closer to the water or to the Aquarium. Have you thought about Pacific Grove? It's quite close to Monterey but much more charming, in my opinion.

We really enjoyed http://www.bestwesternfiresideinn.com/

We also liked the Best Western more than the Fog Catcher. |
The Fireside Inn is nice, I love their pool area here. We have stayed at the Pelican Cove Inn also and it was very pleasant. The Monterey Beach Resort is a Best Western venue (so is the Fireside Inn) and right on the ocean, you may want to check them out. ***kim*** ((l))

indianajudy: I responded on your other thread about Casa Munras.

We are searching for lodging in Cambria for a weekend in June. Like the pictures on the Fogcatcher Inn, J Patrick house. Has anybody stayed there? I saw a good coment on the Best Western Fireside Inn, but I'm hesitant about Best Western's in general. My experience is they can be run down and dirty. Cleanliness is absolutely imperative. I have also looked at the Morgan in San Simeon, which looks lovely but had one horrible review on Yelp. Any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks!

One horrible review out of how many, 2 or 100? Do you think you'll find ANY hotel ANYWHERE that doesn't have at least one horrible review?
|
trigo, don't know what to tell you. We stayed at the Fireside Inn and it was fabulous - especially for the price. I can assure you that "cleanliness is imperative" for us as well. I stayed at another BW on my trip in CA and both were fabulous along with being well priced.

...but I'm hesitant about Best Western's in general.
Since they're all independently owned and operated, it's not really fair to generalize about all Best Westerns based on your experiences with one or two. |
We stayed at this hotel last march had a king deluxe with fireplace it was reall nice the bathroom was abit small but the bed was very comfy nice outside firpit too. We got in late so ate at the tai resturant across the street food was good and very resonable. Jen

casa munras for above post

Thanks all. We are leaning toward Fog Catcher Inn or BW Fireside Inn in Cambria in June. I may go with the best price. I was quited $399/night upstairs or $309/night downstairs full ocean view at the Fog Catcher Inn. Seems pricey and haven't found any better deals there online. Reservation clerk seemed to think the upstairs was best because of the dunes on the beach, but I don't know.... I do love a beautiful, full ocean view though.

@Lissa - this is a 2.5 year old thread, info might be dated.

She ought to know--and she does. Upstairs, please. |
