Hotels in Anchorage
 

I'm looking for a nice mid priced hotel in Anchorage. We'll be taking the rail in and flying out so I'd like someplace convenient. We won't have a car. Any suggestions? Any one know the Voyager?

I'm not sure there is any such thing as a mid-priced hotel in Anchorage in the summer. However, one thing to check is whether or not they have a shuttle service for both the train station and the airport. Some hotels don't and it can add up to $30 to your stay if you have to take a taxi. There are also some very nice B&B's in Anchorage for under $100 a night.

Yes. We regularly stay at the Voyager and highly recommend it. Its right down town, across the street from the Capt. Cook. Good restaurants and access to the city directly from the hotel. Depending on your inclinations, I enjoy a morning evening walk down around the Cook Inlet flats just a couple of blocks from the Voyager, and a walk to New Sagayas for morning coffee, fruit, and fresh bakery stuff. Voyager owner and staff are responsive, rooms comfortable and clean. Its our preferred spot whenever we go to Anchorage (we live in Sitka). Hope this helps.

We stayed at a very nice Comfort Inn that was right by your rail. It was in a pretty area and had a really cool lobby, complete with chandelier, winding staircase, and Kodiak bear.
The rooms were also nice.

For a bargain, look at the downtown Ramada or Days Inn, both offer shuttles to the airport and rail depot, a BIG savings.

we stalyed at the Days Inn last year when whe saw the start of the ititerod. It is just a short walk to everything downtown. Price was right - but much higher in summer as all hotels will be

I do know about the Voyager and have stayed there several times. Good central location. Clean, upscale rooms. Rather nice restaurant attached, but more moderate ones are all over.

He may not still be there, but the owner had a dog named Mr. Muffin that spent his days in and around the lobby. Guests could even take Mr. Muffin for a walk and I enjoyed that activity. Even if Mr. Muffin is not around, his replacement may be.

My relatives used the toursaver book (heck, I sent 'em the link) for 2-for-1 stay at the Ramada Inn. What's more...they have a free shuttle from the airport. Good deal. plus, my neighbor runs the restaurant (Yukon Yacht Club). Pretty nice.
