Hotels convenient to DeYoung Museum, San Francisco
 

Planning way ahead to September when we want to go to an exhibit at the DeYoung Museum of paintings on loan from the Musee D'Orsay. Can you recommed a hotel convenient to the DeYoung?

The Museum is in Golden Gate Park and accessible by public transportation.

If you are checking public transport - wait till after December 5 when MUNI will have major changes.

In any case, I would stay close to Market street to catch a bus - don't know if 5 or 21 will be running, if not there will be some transport to the museum.

It's right on the park, and the local neighborhoods are interesting (Haight Ashbury, Cole and Irving streets).

Agree that you won't really need a hotel near the park, though.

Thanks - guess I will just see where we can get a good deal since sounds it will not be hard to get to the musuem.

I agree with staying near Union Sq and catch the bus to GG Park. You'll have plenty more choices for hotels/shops/restaurants if you stay near Union Sq than near GG Park.

I just spent a week in SFO and went to the deYoung and GGP. It was amazingly easy to do via city bus (MUNI) from Market St. We stayed at the Kimpton hotel, Serrano near Union Square and I was able to get everywhere easily, quickly and cheaply via public transport. The SFO MUNI has a wonderful web feature, a bit like MapQuest where one enters there starting address, desired ending address and up pops all the options for the itinerary via public transport. Its called "Transit 511" The bus drivers are also just wonderful with assistance while in-route. I really enjoyed taking the bus as its a delightful way to see the city for only $2.00 or less. I bought the unlimited 3 day pass for only $18 right at my hotel.

Actually, to be accurate, you'll have lots more choices of <i>hotels</i> anywhere else -- there are are only one or two hotels in the area -- but there is plenty of shopping and eating near the park.
