hotels and thngs to do in Jackson WY

We will be spending two days in Jackson WY to visit Grand Tetons and Jackson itself. Can anyone recommend a decent hotel in the under $150 night category? We will really just be sleeping there so aren't looking for a lot of amenities other than being clean. Any fun things to do in Jackson? Thank-you.

Hi Fan,

There are so many motel and hotels and condos I can't even begin. Do a google.

The town itself has some of the best western art galleries in the world. Lots of other nice shopping if you are into that. There is the Wildlife Museum just outside town across from the Elk Refuge. There is also an alpine slide at the Snow King ski area in town. Lots of very good restaurants too.

At Teton Village you can ride up the tram for awesome views from the top.

The main draw is Grand Teton Natl Park. Lots of hiking, photo ops. Views you will NEVER forget. You could easily spend two days without even seeing the town of Jackson.

Have fun!

PS - rafting on the Snake River too!

Jackson and the surrounding area is wonderful. I love "saddling up" at the Cowboy Bar - saddles instead of bar stools.

There are lots of places to stay in all price ranges. I chose a moderate one using TripAdvisor reviews and was very pleased.

We stayed at the Parkway Inn a few years ago in Jackson. It was clean, very reasonable and a great location. My kids loved the Alpine slide at Snow Kind, and of course, the daily show in the center of town. You will love it there!!
We also took a float/dinner raft ride one evening. Our kids were fairly young then so we couldn't do the whitewater trip, but we enjoyed the float trip. Enjoy!

Thanks for your replies. Do you know where the rafting trips originate? The alpine slide sounds like fun. Parkway Inn looks nice but is a little above our price range ($225/night with AAA discount).

You MUST saddle up at the Cowboy Bar! We also ate at the Gun Barrel. Excellent, especially if you like game meat. Pepe Stiegler's if you don't.

As far as staying - the Cowboy Cabins seemed cool. The Best Western would probably be inexpensive. It's very nice looking, too. Everything in Jackson has that cowboy feel. No ugly, mass produced nonsense. We stayed in Teton Village though.

A good place for a family to stay would be Elk Country Inn. I've stayed there twice (most recently two weeks ago) and can recommend it as being clean, comfortable, and located within walking distance of downtown.

I've nothing against Jackson, but the Teton is definitely worth most of your time when you're there! However, there is some good dining in and around town.
As others have said, there are tons of motels in Jackson. I started with the AAA book and did some research from there.

Thanks. I just booked the Elk Country Inn at $135 night. People seemed happy with it so its worth a shot.

Ah...if you had only gone off-season! I stayed there two weeks ago for $50 a night.

$50 a night!!! I wish I could go off season. Still have 4 more years of school age kids though so summer is the only option right now.
