what is thought about the Ian Schrager hotels, specifically the HUDSON, PARAMOUNT, AND ROYALTON.

Two thoughts:

1) Where are these hotels?

2) I'd recommend reposting with more specifics in your title. Odds are the people familiar with those specific hotels won't see this post because the title is so vague.

All of these hotels are trendy, with small rooms, and get mixed (mostly negative ) reviews. Check out Fodors 'Hotels' guide to read other's opinions.

The Hudson has a cool, trendy bar, and another "library" lounge with pool table. Nice ( and expensive )to go there for drinks, but just be prepared for a small room unless you want to spend the extra money to upgrade.

Have a look on tripadvisor.com I haven't heard much lately about the last 2. There is a thread HERE on the Hudson. Type Hudson Hotel AND NYC in the text search box. It should come up. Generally the comments are small rooms, big attitude. I think younger people (teens & 20 somethings) enjoy them more but that's a gross generalization.

My opinion is that these hotels have a higher opinion of themselves than do most of the people who stay there. What can you say about a hotel (the Paramount) which thinks it would simply be too mundane to have any kind of sign or nameplate outside with their name on it? Obviously they are trying to impressive and attract people who want to be there simply because they're "in the know". It's a pretty well documented fact that if you overcharge enough for tiny -- ill equipped, but highly "trendy" rooms and manage to convince the trendoids that this is the place to stay so they can see each other and be seen, those people WILL come, and they do -- for now. If you are looking for an uncomfortable platform bed in a tiny room that changes color for your mood, or happy with a pedestal sink in a tiny bath that won't hold your stuff, but is overflowing with the latest famous name bath products -- and if you enjoy walking through a lobby where everyone is looking at you to see if you are a rock star or film actor, then these are the hotels for you.

We stayed at Hudson when it first opened and took advantage of their introductory rates at the time. We are not what I would call "hip & trendy" but we really enjoyed the hotel. Yes, the rooms are small, if you require a large room you should book elsewhere. Our room and bath were exceptionally clean. The staff was not snobby toward us and had no problem storing luggage for us after we had checked out, etc. The library bar is expensive, but if it is a warm night (not sure when you are going) the open courtyard in the middle of the hotel is a nice place to enjoy that expensive drink! If the rate was right, I would stay there again.

Patrick, I must most respectfully disagree. I think it is the employees who have the elevated sense of worth then the oh so pretentious accommodations.
