Hi- Does anyone have any information on the guest rooms in the Hotel Washington? We found very good rates for them for our trip in July but don't know what we would be getting.

I have the same question. In my search for a very nice, historic hotel that is also appealing to kids, this one came up a lot. I want to book it but what is it really like?

Haven't been inside but rooms are reported to be very small, due to the fact that the hotel is over 80 years old, and somewhat worn. DC is a competitive market and if you're seeing low rates, the hotel is being forced to lower rates to fill rooms. Does that mean it's bad? No, not necessarily. Depends on your expectations and just how low the rate is compared to other similarly rated hotels.

I think Joe is correct. I was bumped to this hotel from another DC property a couple of years ago. It was fine for one night and I wasn't paying, nor would I have! The hotel was slightly worn, my room was tiny (newer DC hotels tend to have much larger rooms) and the staff surly at best. The location is good, however.

WE were there with our two teenage sons several summers ago. IF you can get the "family plan ", you can't beat it. The location is superb. It also included a spectacular breakfast buffet with loads of fresh fruit, pastries, and full breakfast items. <BR> <BR>The rooms were nice sized with a nice bathroom. If you are looking for a lavish modern lobby, however, you will not find it. <BR> <BR>We had an extra treat--we were there on the 4th of the July weekend and by semi-hanging out of our full sized windows, we were able to watch the fireworks from our room, without the mobs near the Washington monument. <BR>We would go back there without a doubt, particularly if you qualify for thie "family rate"

Hi Sandy, <BR> <BR>I stayed at the Hotel Washington 2 years ago on a family trip. It was me, (then 21), my brother (then 23), and my mom and dad. The hotel itself was fairly "basic." Nothing too fancy, nothing flashy. Room was relatively small, but certainly adequate. The best thing about this hotel?? LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION!! In the entire 5 days we were there, we didn't have to drive once! We were close enough to all monuments/memorials/museums that we could walk. For those things out a little further (such as Arlington Cemetery) we just got on a shuttle or bus. It was great. And considering the fact that you'll probably be spending very little time in your hotel room, you can't beat this hotel's location. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. Good luck <BR> <BR>Jamie

Those who responded "location" were exactly right. You can walk to almost everything. I would book this hotel again in a heartbeat. However, perhaps my standards are not as grandiose as some. Clean and location are my biggies.

The best thing about the Hotel Washington (aside from the location, of course), is the rooftop bar/restaurants. It's a great place to spend an evening or just have a drink. Wonderful views of the city. The food's very average, and the drinks are expensive, but my out-of-town guests always love it.

If you can get a good rate here, it's a great base of operations, since location is it's strong point. An independent hotel, it has a great view and nice rooms, not great, but perfectly fine. I just made a lot of comments about restaurants in this vicinity on another post. Inside tip - Arnold Schwartzenager (sp?) rode a horse through the lobby in "Spies Like Us" or something like that.
