Hotel upgrades~ true or false?

We booked a vacation package for las vegas thru USAIR to stay at the New Yrok New York hotel. Right now it is a pretty penny to upgrade to the spasuite. USAIR told us to wait until we check in because if they are not busy at the hotel then they may let us upgrade for another $25 per night. Is it possible they would offer us such a deal when we get there? Forgive me as I don't know much about trying to upgrade in Vegas.

No personal exp. with that hotel but I do know when they have availability they do give you great deals. Lots of luck and enjoy your time in Vegas.

Yes, that is true, in my experience. Just ask when you get to the front desk. I think it cost us $30 to upgrade to a spa suite at the Mandalay Bay. We were upgraded once at the Mirage also, and I don't remember if they even charged us for it.

Never hurts to ask, you might get lucky. Have fun! :)

Yes, ask at the check-in.

Once we were offered an upgrade in one of the hotels at the check-in, and I asked first: how much? the front desk woman started a long speech with photos of different suites... I said, just forget it, we'll take what reserved :)

Now sure if she was trying to be so very helpful, or wanted a fat tip. We ended up in a very nice room with... mirror ceilings!! (we are an older couple).

I remember coming in from a long weekend in DV at what was once Alladin and now PlanetHollywood. I guess we must've looked really raggedy and tired because they upgraded us to a corner suite that overlooked the Bellagio dancing waters and the eifel towers of Paris. It was a HUGE room with one of those floor to ceiling flat screen tv's and a jacuzzi tub that open on each side to the living room and the bedroom. All for $99/night. I didn't even ask for an upgrade. I remember asking at booking the weekend before for a room that has views of the dancing ballagio waters "of possible". I guess it was! Ask, all they can do is say no.
