Hotel suggestions in St. Pete, FL- near The Pier?

Hi. I'm looking for a place to stay near the Pier in St. Pete. Any recommendations on a nice room. We're only staying one night, so amenities aren't really a big deal. Looking for a nice clean room, comfy bed, etc. I saw Colonial Bayfront online, but wasn't sold on it.
Thanks for any advice!

Without question, the best place closest to the Pier is the Vinoy Hotel. you can get a room overlooking the Pier and the waterfront downtown.

The Vinoy is expensive but you might be able to get a deal on it now with tourism down. It is such a gorgeous place

Any other ideas? The Vinoy I priced and it is very expensive. Sounds like a great hotel with LOTS of recreation/amenities. I'm looking for a good B&B or interesting hotel that offers breakfast.
Thoughts - anyone?

Lori,

Why not find a hotel on St. Pete Beach? The visit to downtown St. Pete takes only a half day, assuming you will be doing the Dali Museum, the Florida International Museum, and The Pier.

Now if you are planning on sampling the night life, that is another story. (Although I have not done so, I understand the Baywalk is really nice.)

A few websites that might be of help are www.flausa.com. www.tampabaylive.com.

Hope this helps.

Yep I am topping a post from 2001 but I have the same question and thought perhaps there might be some new insights.

I have been to the Vinoy and know that it is quite nice but curious if anyone has experienced other hotels in the downtown St. Pete area. I live in Tampa but looking for some places for out of town guests for next year who will be at a function at the Florida International Museum. I rarely need a hotel in St. Pete so hoping someone has some insights since 2001.

Thank you in advance.

Lori,
Not exactly sure if this is the location you want, but we stayed for one night this past August at the Holiday Inn Heritage. It was an older building but clean rooms and we got a great rate on their website. They offered a breakfast deal but across the street was Baywalk (if I recall the name correctly at this hour!) and there was a nice deli that served breakfast on the second floor.

Hi coldwar27,
Just realized my reply was really for you. Didn't notice the original date. Anyway, check out the Heritage.

There is also a Hampton Inn that is near the BayWalk shops.
