Hotel suggestions for San Fran. in August

Hello all. My wife and I are planning a trip to San Francisco, for the first time, in August, and are looking for some hotel suggestions from others. We're from NYC, if that helps at all in terms of suggestions. We've done a little looking and found the Archibishop a nice first candidate, just as an example, but we can go for more modern hotels also....price range we are looking for is $100-160.

Any help is very much appreciated!

Regards,

Jonathan

My first trip to San Fran was last April and we stayed at the Villa Florence located in Union Square. It is a cute boutique hotel. They have a great restaurant that is out of this world. One of the best! If you have any other questions, please let me know.
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply...I checked out VillaFlorence...beautiful hotel, but their lowest room rate is $179, so that is probably out of our price range.

Any further suggestions? Hope so! And we're willing to swap hotel quality for location, and vice versa.

Regards,

Jonathan

We have stayed at the Andrews Hotel twice..unfortunately, it's been written up.. Rates are very reasonable..$106.00 for a queen sized bed.. huge continental breakfast on each floor in the a.m. and a glass of wine in the restaurant, Fino. It really is a jewel.. www.andrewshotel.com

Oops..forgot.. they are on Post Street, about a block or two the most from Union Square..This maynot be a modern hotel, but it's a delightful boutique of 44 rooms and an old fashioned elevator.

Hello Jonathan! We took a suggestion from many emailers and went on hotwire.com! What an easy process; although I was concerned that they do not tell you the hotel until you book. I ended up booking an $89 room for a four star hotel in Union Square -- turns out to be Hotel Monaco. When I called to find out what the room rate was for the same night (to compare prices) they would give me a DISCOUNT of $199. Reading comments about the Hotel Monaco, gives me every indication that this was a good deal.
You may want to give a try and even to just do a search for the nights you will be there.
Enjoy!

I just booked the SF Marriott on fourth street for 99.00/ night Thursday - Sun in August through priceline. The rate on the web site was 240.00/ night for the same dates. That might be worth a try.......

now is the best time to book. I just got great deals on the airport hotels that were a good third or more higher just a few weeks ago. Yes book now!
