hotel suggestions

We are going to NO in a few weeks for a wedding. We're considering French market inn but the reviews have been bad. Is it still this way or has it changed? How about the St. Ann Marie? Any other suggestions? Would like something with a pool and a little romantic ambience. Between $100 and $150. Thanks for the input.

Try the Place d'Armes on St. Ann (800/366-2743 or 504/524-4531). They usually have good rates (especially in the summer). They have a nice courtyard and pool. It's just across the street from Jackson Square. Ask for a room with a window if that is important to you - many rooms don't have any.

Have only heard bad things about French Market Inn. Don't know anything about St. Ann Marie.

Another suggestion is the Cornstalk Fence Hotel on Royal St. It fits in your budget. This is a wonderful property that has gotten a bit shabby around the edges, but was clean, comfortable, and in a great location. No pool, though. Also, if you are willing to walk to the French Quarter, we really enjoyed Le Pavillon Hotel. This place is quite luxurious for the money and has a nice rooftop pool. They also have a neat tradition of serving PB&J sandwiches and milk every night at 10:00 pm. Good lunches, too. Watch out for the brutally expensive valet parking.

have you looked at the st. james hotel. they were running a special for a long time for $99 a night; it's a newly renovated hotel that seemed quite nice. excellent restaurant called cuvee downstairs. only thing is, it's a few blocks outside the quarter. we stayed at the international house a few blocks away from the st. james, and decided we liked the area though because it was quiet and seemed safe.

Lisa,

Good suggestions so far.

You didn't say how you are traveling to N.O. but if driving, Le Richelieu is noted for its free parking. It has many other good points - some of the other threads RE the French Quarter mention it.

Hey guys,

I have stayed at the Historic French Market Inn and would not suggest it. The Place d'Armes is absolutely wonderful. Great location and wonderful staff. Amy

Has anyone stayed at the Prince Conti? They are charging a nice rate, but I am not sure what I'm getting into. If it's nice or o.k. Or should I just opt for the inter-continental on St. Charles? Help!

Prince Conti has a nice bar (Bombay Club) but crappy rooms, IMHO.

I've stayed at The Cornstalk. It was horrid. Beds too short to sleep in, noise up and down the halls ALL night long, plumbing that didn't work, after 10PM everyone entering the building is buzzed in with an obnoxiously loud security system, and management that couldn't have cared less. We desperately tried to move, but during a convention there was nothing to be had. Never again.

To each his own. I wasn't expecting the Ritz, so I wasn't disappointed. Our room was very clean and comfortable, and I thought the place had a lot of character. Definitely not for everyone.
