Hotel Suggestion NYC Penn Station

Would like any suggestions for a nice but relatively inexpensive hotel in the Penn Station/Port Authority Bus Station neighborhood of New York City. Rooms can be small, but hotel area must be safe and have an elevator. Thanks.

Sorry to tell you but your question is not possible to answer.

You don't give your dates or actual budget.

ps. New York City is the safest large city in this country.

Any tourist hotel is safe - but the area you've selected is one of the lest plesant in Manhattan. Primarily a business are, not a lot of restaurants and oftne dreary at night.

Agree we need a date (coast vary tremendously throughouth the year) and a budget. Also, if you tell us why you're coming people may make suggestions on more plesant areas.

I would stay near Penn Station it is desolate at night and the bus terminal is just a few blocks from Times Square.

I am sorry for the ommission- I would NOT stay near Penn.

I would not worrry about being so near to a terminal, there is plenty of transportation in Manhattan between the subway, buses, cabs, and walking.

Hi, Tom18. Like nytraveler and Aduchamp1 noted, this area can be hectic and dingy. Many of travelers opt to stay away from Port Authority for that reason. But I will say that the Westin New York, the Hilton Times Square, and Hotel 41 are all decent options just steps away. If we had a budget, we could narrow it down...

I agree both the Penn station area and the area around Port Authority are pretty unattractive. They're about 10 blocks from each other so which is it you want and why? Near Penn station, the Red Roof Inn, the Metro, the Wyndham Garden Inn Times Square South and the Affinia Manhattan are some decent options in that area. Near Port Authority, the Westin is right across the street but will likely be pricey. There are some new hotels along west 38th & 39th st. including a Four Points Sheraton, a Holiday Inn Express and a Fairfield Inn, but if you read reviews on tripadvisor you'll note the street/area isn't very nice. One of the best options not far from Port Authority is the Hilton Garden Inn Times Square.

The Red Roof In at 6 W 32 Street is a bit southeast of that area, but is one of my favorite places to stay in New York. It's part of the Apple Core group, well-managed, nice free breakfast and WiFi. After booking, check the rates periodically since sometimes they do drop.
