hotel suggestion needed in LA
My husband & I are going to LA in October and the focus of our visit is both Getty museums and the Peterson Car Museum. What area should we stay in? We will have a car and will probably come in & out of LAX. When we get hotel set then we will build around that for sightseeing and restaurants. We prefer something mid price . Fodorites have helped us SO MANY TIMES!!! Thanks one more time.

Around LAX the sheraton 4 points are nice
Also the Crowne Plaza betterbidding.com
best 4 star deals bidding Priceline for me.
Embassy Suites Huntington Beach my fav from $120
Westin Bonaventure downtown nice if you want
to be downtown paid $64 bidding Priceline.
Santa Monica MDR hotels expensive quality not great
at the lower star levels nice views though.
Usually rent a cheap car from Fox or Deluxe
carrentals.com easiest way to get around.
Happy Travels,

2 years ago I stayed at Hotel Angeleno http://www.jdvhotels.com/angeleno/, based on a recommendation from this board. I was able to get a great Getty Museum special by talking directly to the front desk (not offered at 800 #), which included: free shuttle to Getty Museum (avoids parking fee there), free valet parking at hotel, & coupon toward dinner in their lovely restaurant with great views.
It gets some negative reviews for being close to a highway but we didn't have a problem with noise. Front desk and staff were very friendly. I loved the convenience for getting to the Getty and like boutique hotels, as opposed to large chains, so it was perfect for us. I don't know about the car museum.

Fodorites ae the best! Many thanks for all your wonderful suggestions. I see the Priceline suggestion here a lot & will try that. Sounds like Santa Monica might be our best bet. Next we will see about restaurants. Thanks

The Sheraton Delfina on Pico is nice, and a good price. Probably about $249 plus parking.
We like Santa Monica, but we stay in Marina del Rey so we can have a marina view. Like at the Jamaica Bay Inn I mentioned above. We were just there and had a special package: marina view room with two queen beds, free internet, free breakfast for two, free parking for $220/night. It is a brand new facility, and they have some kinks in their service, but they are trying very hard and everyone was very helpful.
A more basic place I have stayed is also a Pacifica property: the Inn at Venice Beach. No view rooms, though. Best rooms face the inner courtyard. Continental breakfast is included. Covered parking is very cheap, like $8/day. It has a younger vibe, with good service. It is a bloack or two from Venice Beach, which is also a younger vibe, but I don't mind it.
