Hotel suggestion for 3 Day Shopping Weekend
My sister and I are planning a three day trip the first weekend in October to New York City to shop and try a few nice restaurants. We have both already done all the site seeing in the past. We are looking for a suggestion for the best hotel at the best price with a room that two women can move around in somewhat comfortably. We've stayed at Le Parker Meridian and Westin before, but both are pretty high priced right now.

Not sure about prices right now, but I like being in the Times Square area - seems pretty central to me - and you can try the Doubletree, Marriott or Sheraton. I've stayed in all of them, and they were nice and convenient - and you can sometimes get good rates. Good luck - I LOVE NYC>>>>

Debi,
Thanks for responding. I was seriously considering the Sheraton Times Square but I'm reading terrible reviews about it being run down and very small rooms. Can you comment more? |
There is no Sheraton Times Square, so you mean the Sheraton Manhattan or Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers (across the st. from each other)?
Just fyi, Travelzoo.com has a good deal right now for the weekend you are going to be in NYC at the Millenium Broadway hotel. You might want to check that out. http://hotels.travelzoo.com/new-york-hotels/326566 |
Yes, I meant Sheraton Manhattan
|
I stayed at the Sheraton that is right off Times Square and it was convenient, clean and a good deal. The room was large and comfortable. pack in the conventioneers or large groups bc it had a huge lobby. They must I got it on Priceline for about $125 per night. This was a couple of years ago.
|
emd, I checked out the deal on the Millennium, wow, that seems almost too good to be true. What do you know about the Millennium?
|
Well - I don;t like Times Square for a shopping trip - since it isn;t near much. I would be much more likely to do midtown east or downtown - depending on wher eyou want to shop.
But that deal at the Millenium Broadway is a great one considering average rates in Oct and I would grab it. |
SR You might wanna check out NeoPatrick's post on NYC. It is Fantastic and should be up for a Emmy!
|
Check the tripadvisor and other reviews for the Millenium. I haven't stayed there, but I would try it for myself at that rate. October is prime season and rates are generally very high at good hotel.
|
There are a lot of "Candid Travelers Pictures" of many different rooms and views re this hotel on the tripadvisor.com page. It looks nice.
|
Good rates at the Millenium, I would tell you to grab the reservation also, you won't find a much better price and the hotel is quite nice.
Times Square is not all that convenient for shopping, it's a walk down to 34th or a shep to the upper east side, ie Bloomies. Just get a subway pass and travel becomes a bit easier, since the #1 train goes right through TS, and will take you downtown or to SoHo. For shopping try Daffy's, (several locations), Century 21, Broadway tons of stores south of Houston ST. Have a great time. |
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I did book the Millennium. Thanks emd for the recommendation. It's saving us a ton.

Cool! Glad to hear it. Travelzoo is a GREAT site. I booked the Klimpton hotel, the Muse, in Times Square last August for $169 on that site! It was an amazing deal.
I must give credit where it is due-- wonderful MCLAURIE of this board turned me onto Travelzoo and that Muse deal. What a sweetie she is. Have a GREAT sister's weekend, and drink a toast for me and your hotel deal! Hope all goes well. |
