Hotel "shenanigans"...
 

Due to the thin walls of some motels/hotels, has anyone heard arguments, moaning or anything else when trying to sleep? Ever had to smack the side of the wall to get the offending parties to quiet down? Ever had to call the front desk for assistance?

Reminds me of the time that I called the front desk about a VERY loud party next door and in the halls.

I was told that many others have called but that the night manager didd't know what to do... since the cause of the noise was a police convention.

I'm more tempted to call that actual room and ask them if they are in as much pain as it sounds -- or if anyone needs some help as it sounds like they're having a rough time finishing.

What's funny is when you have to listen to that for an hour or two at 1 a.m., and the next morning you see the 'couple' in the hallway and she's like 6'2" and beautiful and the guy is like 5'4" and... not so beautiful....... makes ya wonder. LOL

(and NO, there is nothing wrong with that)

To answer your question, we have had kids running around at 2am upstairs at one Residence Inn, had to get front desk involved. Also heard heated arguments in next room at another hotel, almost called police before people in next room came to blows... etc.

I've always wondered, how hard is it to make a room relatively soundproof? Not banging on the walls soundproof, because that also involves vibration, but just soundproof enough so that you can't hear raised voices in the next room. I also wish that my own home was more soundproofed, but I have no idea how to go about doing it. To make this fully travel-related, is there any way you can tell beforehand how easy it is to hear people in other rooms at a hotel or motel?

LoveItaly, I agree. Just must be my luck, I guess. I've stayed in hotels weekly for twenty years and haven't encountered the chaos this troll seems to experience. Makes one wonder where E is staying...or if E is actually traveling anywhere. Travdis never got out of town.

These things that I post really did happen over the course of my years in travelling that spans 20 + years. Not all in one trip. I really am starting to take offence at all these posters that think this is a 'troll'. How about a little advice.... what are acceptable topics to post? I am really asking, not trying to argue here. :-)

No, I have not read that one... but I do apologize (sp?) to everyone who took my post in the wrong way... I did not mean it to be intrusive or to make anyone uncomfortable.... Just trying to have a conversation. I will stick to location specific subjects from now on...

There is a post here, pre-registration by Neal Sanders. Well written, very desciptive of an abusive relationship going on in the next room. Police were called. Horrifying. I haven't read it in a few years, but it has stayed with me. When you go on vacation, you don't leave troubles at home.

That Dave Barry story came up in Fodors a few years ago. 2002 I think. The reason I remember was my brother and I spent a long weekend at the Pennsylvania and noted teh stained walls and somewhat nasty bathrooms. Did not bother us much as the price was right ($90 per night). The story ran in the Sunday Boston Globe magazine the SUnday we returned.

To answer the question: Why not knock on the door and ask if you can join in.

I stayed in a hotel last fall for a business weekend. On the second day they moved in an entire high school football team still in their uniforms onto my floor who had just won the state football championship. I was the only non-football player on the floor. Oooohh did I call the front desk. I got moved to another floor in a heart beat after being tackled in the hallway.
