Hotel "shenanigans"...

Due to the thin walls of some motels/hotels, has anyone heard arguments, moaning or anything else when trying to sleep? Ever had to smack the side of the wall to get the offending parties to quiet down? Ever had to call the front desk for assistance?

TripleSecDelay Aug 11th, 2005 11:02 AM

Yes. Next question.
What was your experience that you wish to relate to all of us?

starrsville Aug 11th, 2005 11:26 AM

Has travdis returned?

To answer your question, I try diligently to CAUSE all the above, not report it to front desk.

LoveItaly Aug 11th, 2005 11:27 AM

ROTFL starrsville. You go girl!!!!

GoTravel Aug 11th, 2005 11:49 AM

Reminds me of the time that I called the front desk about a VERY loud party next door and in the halls.

I was told that many others have called but that the night manager didd't know what to do... since the cause of the noise was a police convention.

I'm more tempted to call that actual room and ask them if they are in as much pain as it sounds -- or if anyone needs some help as it sounds like they're having a rough time finishing.

FainaAgain Aug 11th, 2005 12:26 PM

Patrick, finishing what??

fredman Aug 11th, 2005 12:27 PM

What's funny is when you have to listen to that for an hour or two at 1 a.m., and the next morning you see the 'couple' in the hallway and she's like 6'2" and beautiful and the guy is like 5'4" and... not so beautiful....... makes ya wonder. LOL

(and NO, there is nothing wrong with that)

TripleSecDelay...

To answer your question, we have had kids running around at 2am upstairs at one Residence Inn, had to get front desk involved. Also heard heated arguments in next room at another hotel, almost called police before people in next room came to blows... etc.

likeswords Aug 11th, 2005 01:44 PM

I've always wondered, how hard is it to make a room relatively soundproof? Not banging on the walls soundproof, because that also involves vibration, but just soundproof enough so that you can't hear raised voices in the next room. I also wish that my own home was more soundproofed, but I have no idea how to go about doing it. To make this fully travel-related, is there any way you can tell beforehand how easy it is to hear people in other rooms at a hotel or motel?

<anyone heard arguments, moaning or anything else when trying to sleep?> YES

<Ever had to smack the side of the wall to get the offending parties to quiet down?> NO

<Ever had to call the front desk for assistance?> NO

Yikes! He's back.

Meesthare Aug 11th, 2005 06:59 PM

In response to the original poster's question, let me quote what I was taught to say when somebody asked me something intrusive, overly personal, or pointless:

How will it help you to have the answer to that question?

LoveItaly Aug 11th, 2005 08:03 PM

Emucom, did you have all this disruption at the same time the fire alarm went off in the hotel (per your other post)? You do have a time of it in hotels!

starrsville Aug 12th, 2005 04:09 AM

Meesthare, I really like that. I'm going to try to remember it and use it!

LoveItaly, I agree. Just must be my luck, I guess. I've stayed in hotels weekly for twenty years and haven't encountered the chaos this troll seems to experience. Makes one wonder where E is staying...or if E is actually traveling anywhere. Travdis never got out of town.

dsquared Aug 12th, 2005 04:21 AM

Meesthare, I like your response. My mother taught me to respond, "why do you ask?"

Works every time!

Emucom Aug 12th, 2005 07:55 AM

These things that I post really did happen over the course of my years in travelling that spans 20 + years. Not all in one trip. I really am starting to take offence at all these posters that think this is a 'troll'. How about a little advice.... what are acceptable topics to post? I am really asking, not trying to argue here. :-)

FainaAgain Aug 12th, 2005 08:19 AM

Just take off your leather jeans, put on that fluffy robe, earplugs, and go to sleep.

Smooches! :*

Judy24 Aug 12th, 2005 08:39 AM

Meesthare--what a great response!

Whenever someone's asked a particularly intrusive question, my response has always been "and you need to know this because . . . ?"

But I like your reply much better.

To Emucom: Have you ever read Dave Barry's infamous essay on the Hotel Schmensylvannia where he describes the activities of his hotel neighbors through the thin walls? It's hysterical.
