Hotel Santa Fe: need advice !

We will be in Santa Fe end of Sept. for 3 nights.Has anyone stayed at Hotel Santa Fe recently and how did you like it ? I was amazed how many places are booked up, what is avail. is too expensive, and we wanted to be at or near the Plaza.
Please tell us what you did and what you did NOT like about it ? Are there nearby restaurants ? Rooms, staff, shuttle service ? Thanks for your help !

I have never stayed there, but I was in SF this week and drove by. It looked OK to me and wasn't too far from the Plaza. I don't think you'll have a problem finding a restaurant. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Santa Fe was really, really packed and there was lots of traffic. Also the flea market wasn't what it used to be due to some construction on the nearby highway.

Thanks, Jayne ! Maybe the big crowds will be gone end of Sept !!!!
I'm hoping to get more comments......

Jayne, What's up with the Tesuque flea market?? I loved going there and am sorry to hear it's not as good as it used to be.

obxgirl:
The flea market has been closed for a while due to a big road construction project. They apparently took a lot of dirt for the project from the nearby land and leveled the whole flea market grounds. All the buildings were gone, including the big concession area. There were several new buildings waiting to be set up and opened and there were a couple of food vendors, including the ones who do the Indian tacos. (But she was still waiting on her big jars to do her watermelon juice, which I was salivating for!)

I'd say there were about half as many booths. They've rearranged the setup so it's not in rows anymore, but more of a circuitous arrangement. That's OK but it makes it a little harder to get back to something you were interested in, if you know what I mean.
The vendors I talked to said the ultimately all the changes should make it better, but I think it's been pretty bad for business this year.

Thanks, Jayne, for the update. Hope the market gets back into the swing of things soon. I'm in the mood for a frito pie even tho it's Sunday morning!

Jenny, Here are some of my favorite places to eat in SF: Tomasita's, Cowgirl Hall of Fame, Pasqual's, Blue Corn Cafe, Santacafe and Geronimo.

I haven't stayed at the Hotel Santa Fe but it looks nice enough at the website. There is a review at tripadvisor that says it's a 10 minute walk to the Plaza and that the hotel has a shuttle. You might consider contacting them directly to confirm that and, hopefully, you'll report back here after your stay!

Last October we stayed at Garrett's which is incredibly close to the Plaza and diagonally across the street from the Pink Adobe which was excellent for dinner and has a great bar. Garrett's was affordable, provided good sized rooms, from the outside it looks like your basic motel....but with so much to see and do OUTside the hotel room in beautiful Santa Fe it served our purposes perfectly. We were able to walk to everything from our hotel.
Hope this helps.

We stayed at the Hotel Santa Fe several years ago, so I can't comment on its current condition, but we walked to the plaza area many times. When we didn't want to walk, we used their shuttle, which both took us to dinner and came back and picked us up again. It also took us to the gallery area. I liked the hotel (although there was construction going on there). Breakfast in the hotel was good but we had a bad dinner experience there--group of 7 and one of us didn't get her dinner until the rest were done. There are restaurants nearby and, again, you can walk or get their shuttle to more distant ones.
