Hotel San Remo - LV??????
 

I will be in LV April 14-18th and was considering this hotel. They post decent rates on their website. I have never been to Vegas and will be accompanying 2 elderly aunts. Is this a nice place and is it conveniently located? Any info greatly appreciated.

I would not stay there. The location is ok, on the North end of the strip. I saw a rate of 45 per nite on Expedia.com. If price is an issue I would choose The RIvera over San Remo. Oh, the San Remo is not on the strip it is just off the strip bt MGM Grand.

I've stayed at San Remo several times. The location is excellent at the top of the strip. While there is nothing particularly notable about the property, I consider its smaller size (I believe less than 750 rooms) to be an advantage. San Remo often allows Saturday night check-ins, unlike some Vegas hotels. It is a quick ride back to the airport. Their show is decent and not as pricey as many alternatives that are no better. The breakfast buffet is not one of those cast-of-thousands scenes, but more like a typical, hometown restaurant. There is a pool area in the back that is rarely very crowded. In the context of a value choice, the San Remo makes the grade, IMHO.

I would recommend staying ON the strip for your first trip to Vegas... not near/close to it (even if "close" is only 1 block away).<BR><BR>Personally i think there is more to see/do at the other end of the strip near Mirage, Caesars, Bellagio. The lesser expensive hotels in this area include Flamingo, Bally's, Harrah's.<BR><BR>Check out this list of current deals in the LA Times. LA gets the majority of Vegas advertising dollars, but you don't need to live in LA to take advantage of them:<BR>http://govegas.about.com/bllatimes.htm?once=true&<BR><BR>In that list, the Tropicana, Bally's, and Flamingo seem to have deals that "stand out." If you opt for the Tropicana, make sure it's NOT for a Garden Room, as these are much lower quality than the Tower rooms.<BR><BR>Also, hard to give too specific of a recommendation based upon some questions that your original post left unanswered.... <BR><BR>Given that your trveling with "elderly aunts", are they able to walk on their own ok, are you looking for a hotel location that you can use as a "base" and see everything Vegas has to offer OR looking for a hotel that has a casino, restaurants, and entertainment so that you won't have to leave it?<BR><BR>If you expand on the above (and possibly give your hotel budget), i'll try to make a more specific recommendation.

Just an add'l note, i looked at the Treasure Island mentioned above for your dates (as $65 is a great rate for this hotel) and it appears that this rate is only for 4/14 and 4/17, and the other dates are ~$149/nite.

Thereuare, I have tried to find these deals from the LA Times to no sucess. I have not got anything when I key in what you stated in your post. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for replies everyone. My elderly aunts can walk about just fine and are interested in a convenient location that is not above 60-70 per night. They enjoy the slots and buffets and perhaps a show or two. Shopping is low on their list. I will try some of the sites recommended.

Brenda - The San Remo is perfect for your needs. The hotel is very close to the main corner that hosts the Tropicana, MGM Grand, Excalibur and New York, New York... the price is right, there is a very comfortable casino downstairs and you are a short distance from the moving sidewalks that take you to Luxor or the monorail that takes you down the strip... Book it with confidence... its a nice place...

Although I have not stayed at the San Remo, friends have. They enjoyed the food there but considered it quite a hike to get to other places they wanted to see. It is at the end of the strip behind/next to the Tropicana.<BR>I'd like to suggest Aladdin. the rooms are lovely (get one with a view of the Bellagio fountain), the buffet is #1 in my opinion, staff is extremely helpful and the location is great next to Paris and across from Bellagio.
