Hotel, restaurant help for European visiting NYC
We have been presented with a last-minute opportunity to visit New York City during New Year's. So, your help would be appreciated in finding a nice hotel for under $200 somewhere between Central Park and Rockefeller Center. Also, we'll probably be looking for a nice restaurant to have lunch on the afternoon of Dec. 31. One more thing: Any "informal" spots where we could go for drinks on New Year's Eve? Not looking for the big, fancy, expensive galas. More like a pub atmosphere, even if it's in one of the hotels. Thanks for your help.

Hi Mick,
check out www.placestostay.com . They have a couple of hotels that sound what you're looking for. Just make sure you bring a copy of the confirmation with you.
Happy New Year!

Try Plaza Fifty near Rockefeller Center, an all-suite hotel.

Thanks for your replies so far. Will look into them, but also will accept more info from others.

The absolute best place I have found to get the best hotel deals is at
quikbook.com. ...and there is no cost to you to use them or book a room.

I'm not to sure about drinks ...Perhaps try one of the many local bars in the upper east side.

Happy trails!!

Stayed last year at the small hotel called Helmsley Windsor on 59th. not far from the Park and easy walking to everything else. I agree that you should check Quikbook for I just used them for the Algonquin Hotel on 44th. street which I loved. The hotel is near all the shopping and the theater and has great historical importance.

There's a small hotel on 51st between 8th and 9th which was just completely renovated called the "WJ." (Website: wjhotel.com) They're currently advertising rooms for $109/night. The location is great (I live in the neighborhood) - near the Park, several subway lines, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, etc. It looks quite nice but I haven't actually stayed there so you might want to check about others' experiences.
