Stayed in Cannon Beach for a couple of nights last month and at the Surfsand. As someone said there are cheaper places to stay but I can tell you that having a view of the beach and Haystack Rock is, IMO, unforgettable.

For your rental car - assuming you are flying into Portland? We've found that the additional taxes and fees there really jack up the price. In addition, only some companies are actually AT the airport, and others require you to take their shuttle to lots off site (Budget is one).

Instead, look at taking the TriMet downtown and picking up your car there. There is a stop right at the airport next to baggage claim. It's very inexpensive, clean and pleasant, and we only had to walk about a block to where we picked up the car. Saved us hundreds of dollars.
