Hotel recommendation-Scottsdale, AZ area?

I'm driving myself crazy trying to decide on a hotel room in Phoenix area.

My four sisters and I are all going to surprise my brother for his 60th birthday. This will be the weeknd of 4/21.

He lives in Fountain Hills. I do not want to get a car. (One of my sisters is driving down from Prescott, so I can ride with her to the restaurant for surprise dinner.)

I keep reading things on hotel sites about "old town Scottsdale". It sounds like a place that one can enjoy over a long weekend. And I know it's pretty close to Fountain Hills.

I would like to stay 3-star (or 4 if price is good), pool a plus.

Here is the rub... one of my sisters is likely to room with me. She cannot stand "musty" or old hotel rooms. So, if there are any new (newer) hotels in that area, they would probably get top consideration.

Can anyone in the area recommend newer hotel, near an area where we can walk to shops/restaurants, etc.? Is "old town" Scottsdale where we want to be?

Thanks for the input!

We are not from AZ, but were visiting family. We had a wonderful meal at the Persian Room. They had the creamiest hummus I have eaten and we shared their combo platter (although they have a fancier name) and everything was good to very good.

We also ate at Chicago Bob's Vienna dogs where the french fries were very good.

ok, you can't walk to town [I am not sure you can walk from any of the really top hotels] from this one, but it is our HANDS DOWN all time favorite hotel -anywhere! It is relatively small [119 rooms] and offers the most amazing customer service/experience [without being intrusive].

It is such a tranquil, calming property and their dining room - T. Cook's is phenomenal!

The spa is wonderful too.

We stayed at Hyatt Place last year in old town for spring training, this year we are staying in the nearby Summerfield Suites(soon to be called newly renovated Hyatt House).
Easy walking distance to everything.
I love old town Scottsdale.

Only Judyrem's suggestions are within walking distance of Old Town. Also Marriott Suites, Courtyard, and the Hilton Garden Inn. There are good restaurants in Old Town and also some excellent ones in nearby Fashion Square.

Debit, the RP looks great... they're already booked up for the weekend I need! sigh...

Judyrem- when are the "Summerfield Suites" changing name? Can I assume everything will be all new there? (Remember, this is my concern. No musties!)

Thanks all!

W Scottsdale

I stayed recenty; the walk to Old Town is very close and if you want they will come get you in golf carts for the ride back.
Rooms nice: not musty, Concierge level great.

Sarge, I just looked up the W, and the cheapest rate I could find was 370$ a night.....yikes.
But it looks gorgeous however. Sigh
Maybe we will walk up to it and have some drinks.
