Hotel Recommedations

A friend and I are going to New York at the end of January for 3 days. We will be going to see The Color Purple on Broadway. What hotels would you recommend? Neither one of us has been to New York and we will not be renting a car since the trip is for three days. Your recommendations are greatly appreciated.

If you search this forum for New York hotels there are around 50 replies in the last couple of months. You will most likely find your answer there.

Do you have a budget and do you like boutique hotels or larger chain hotels?

I prefer larger hotel chains but I don't mind quaint hotels. I do have a budget but I am flexible- $100-250 per night is good.

You won't find anything decent for $100 (short of bidding on Priceline which is an option if you're willing to share a bed). Look on quikbook.com for your dates. The Michelangelo is a great hotel in the theater district that sometimes is available for $199/night. Might be possible in January.

The Doubletree Guest Suites Times Square is another very popular all suite hotel in the theater district.

The Belvedere is a good budget hotel in the area, but in Jan. you should be able to get a nicer hotel in your price range.

If you want to try Priceline, bids for 4* in midtown west for $120-200 have been "winning" the NY Hilton, the Westin Times Square, the Marriott Marquis and the Times Square Hilton. These are all good, big hotels. Look on biddingfortravel.com and/or betterbidding.com for more info.

100-250? Can you go higher than that? If not, you'll be staying in NJ, Queens or Long Island for that price. I highly recommend the Marriott right on Broadway in Times Square. it's about 350 though. The coutryard by LaGuardia is around 150 I think. It'll be hard to find anything below 200. There are some really nice hotels in SoHo, but they're not chained.

PrinceJ -

I think you're a litttle confused. The OP is going in JANUARY - rates will be way down - and with Priceline a 4* room under $200 should be easy then. (The prices you're talking about are for high season- not low.)
