Hotel question
 

Message: Hi.. We are staying in Jackson ..June 20,21, 2 nights.. I have us set for Teton Mountain Lodge.. with supposily a view of the valley.. I was reading on this how nice Spring Creek Ranch is.. But it is also far away from the town..where everything is??? I am asking ..not telling.. I have no idea.. If anyone knows anything about these two.. would be so great.. thanks!

I'm not sure if this answers your question--if indeed there is a question here--but here goes: Perhaps.

Sorry I thought I made sense.. But my question is.. does anyone know if Teton Moutain Lodge is on par with Spring Creek.. or is Spring Creek Ranch far better..? And since it seems that Spring Creek is further from the town .. is that a problem?

That's not a proper question, nikkin. You shouldn't criticize others for what's a fairly poor sentence construction.

In the heat of typing your post, you forgot that we have no idea of your specific context. The "Hotel Question" was so open-ended, I was intrigued and drawn in; others probably ignored it. When I started reading it, the first sentence said to me, "Jackson" and I thought: "Jackson, MS?" Then I saw Teton Mountain Lodge, and realized that you were talking Jackson, WY (after a bit of thought). Still, the rest of the post only obliquely requests information (to be pedantic about all this).

We're not criticizing, just gently ribbing you for hiding the point of your post a bit too well. Next time, a more detailed title to your post will get less smartass answers. Best of luck planning your trip! :)

The first post you ever made was vague and someone suggested you post with "Jackson, Wyoming" or something similar in the title. You posted a new post (this one) and ignored the advice, then get snippy.

Nikkin, you did indeed choose "Wyoming." The problem on Fodors is that ALL posts end up on this big generic U.S. forum. In order for someone to know you're talking about a specific state, they have to "search" using that state keyword. So, "Hotel question about Jackson, Wy" would get a lot more answers.

I think what everyone is trying to tell you is that, although you entered the topic "Wyoming" when you posted your question, no state shows up when it is actually posted. This simply means that even when people click on your post, the state is not shown there unless you've included it in your message.

Not good or bad, just a fact.

If you look to your left all you will see is "United States". You will never see seperate states with questions listed under them. Anytime any of us choose a state when writing a question, it goes into the data base for research only. It's a common mistake, you're not the only one that makes it.

To add to that, many posters don't limit their questions or responses to one single state, so they're not using the Topic search to filter out areas. All I'm saying is: Better, less smartass responses when you add just a bit more information in your initial request.

Some posters will get responses despite vague post titles or requests, simply because they've asked several questions about a particular destination. Someone just asked about the Fontainebleau. Now, there are MANY Fontainebleau hotels in many cities (ignoring spelling variations); but the poster in previous questions had clearly asked about long-term lodging in Miami Beach, FL, so the context is very clear.

Now-- can everyone RELAX?!

Uh, for your information, we're not required to do jack for you! rjw, Dan, cd and others replied to you civilly and tried to clue you in. But instead of learning the protocols of the board, you shot off your mouth and will very likely never get advice here again, at least not from me. Your loss.

Okay, everyone seems to be getting upset. Yes, their question was vague, but let's not get bent out of shape about it... and that includes the "poster" and the all of the "postee's".
Now, to answer your question: the minute you leave the town of Jackson, WY or Teton Village, you are in ranch and public lands. Not much out there except beautiful scenery. You will need to drive into Jackson or teton village for nightlife and that can be a bit of a distance (maybe a 30 - 45 minute drive). There can be lots of animals on the road, so be careful driving at dusk. Teton Mountain lodge is lovely and in a better location (IMO). Hope that helps a little.

nikkin, your attitude about this post and elsewhere suggests you want a forum where a) people don't care whether you've figured out how things work before you post and b) people like to scrap. Here, it's really not well received to make a mistake, blame everyone else for it, and then complain that those people need to get a life if they feel you've been unfair.
